@PWSullivan wow, how sad, A baller with no pop for 2 Top tier players, Awful move

for some reason it took me 8 times to read that with the right emphasis; "A baller" instead of "a BALLER"

There was all these reports that the price on Bonafacio was high and about 6 teams after him and this all we get for him AND Russell? And we throw in cash too? Mehhh...

Russell sucks and has negative trade value if you don't throw in cash.

high is a relative term

this is a guy who was released in february (yeah, money reasons...still) and who didn't exactly set the world on fire this season either

imagine if this were 1998 and there were GMs out there dumb enough to give us like jon garland or todd noel for a [expletive] loogy

Now the question is who gets added to the 40-man?

Fujikawa seems the most obvious candidate.

yep. Then he gets put on waivers right away before teams know if he's healthy, then he gets showcased for a couple of weeks before being traded.

Yea I know.. I Wasn't expecting some high end piece, but maybe a young low level pitcher like we got for Barney thrown it would've made it a bit better.

Love this trade. I always liked russell a bit more than I shoulld, but turnning russell and bonifacio into a good catching prospect with pop? awesome ... might be my favorite deal of ths regime's run when you factorin the talent involved.I

I am a fan of trading a light hitting utility infielder and a LOOGY that has trouble getting outs for an actual prospect.

Considering we literally just got information that makes our deal for Addison Russell and Billy McKinney look even better than it already did (not to mention Rizzo), bold move to say this is his favorite deal under Theo.

You know how everyone always talks about not trading much for a 2 month rental?

Now apply that to a guy who's had a .630 OPS after a crazy unsustainable hot first month, and a reliever who probably kind of sucks.

I look at it like this. The Cubs took two guys with marginal major league value who didn't figure into their plans going forward and turned them into an extra 2nd round pick in 2013, ranked 7th in the Braves org., who is a 20-year-old switch-hitting catcher. If you look at it in terms of competitive window, Russell and Bonifacio have more value to the Braves right now and a lottery ticket catcher fills a need for the Cubs future. It's two nothings/easily replaceables for one might be at a position of need. It's not a huge deal but it makes sense for both sides.

Can you elaborate further for those of us who do not have time to hunt for this wonderful news?

Yeah, it's all relative. Our return should be considered high for what we gave up. An organizational top 10 for empending FA that aren't that great. That IS a high "get". If you expected anything approaching a top 100, you are silly, IMO.

The fact that 1.3 years of David Price just got acquired for Austin Jackson and Drew Smyly

The news is comparing the apparent not so great return for Price compared to netting Addison Russel + a guy who's probably on the verge of a top 100 spec.
