I'm more interested in Dubront as a buy-low candidate for next year's rotation than Straily.

Trying for Jake Arrieta 2.0. RT @fangraphs: InstaGraphs: Red Sox Old Front Office Trades for Red Sox Player http://bit.ly/1xADtYA

RT @alexspeier: The PTBNL from the Cubs to the Sox will be conferred after the Rule 5 draft.

Sounds like the Cubs will just be picking for the Red Sox in this case, right?

More likely the Red Sox want someone who is Rule 5 eligible, but they don't want to roster.

Or someone they don't want to waste a 40 man on

Or Red Sox could pluck a guy from us that we didn't add, that failed to get picked.(Example-Marco Hernandez)

Yeah, that's my assumption.

If anyone's interested in North's take on it

Shocked and happy.

I really like Doubront. The velocity drop off is a concern for me. However, he's reached 95 mph on a max this year with it. Hopefully the mph come back for him. He has a fantastic repertoire of above average pitches: an above average CH, CU, and FC. These three pitches get above average whiffs. This combination will result in good platoon splits.

The drop in velocity looks to be related with a large release point change. His horizontal release point has dropped 2 inches since the days when he was averaging 92.7 mph on fastballs.

The drop in ground balls this year is related to his command. There's not a significant movement X and Y change in any of his pitches. He was able to get a significant amount of groundballs outside the zone in previous years, but that has increased this year.

I'm looking forward to having our staff work with him. Even a subtle increase in velocity will help his game. Doubront has the stuff to become a good MLB SP. I like him much more than Wood. I'm excited about it.

@jazayerli: An underrecognized part of the Cubs' pitching acquisition strategy: always trading for guys from the AL. Felix Doubront fits the profile.

Much like my ole' buddy North I'm very happy about this trade. I love the way this front office targets players.

He's also talked a lot about how Travis has completely changed how he has pitched following the 1st month of the season. He's throwing a lot more of his pitches that grade out as subpar for whatever reason.

You have been all about Wood for a long time.

North is my hero, but outside of Junior Lake, he's been right about like nothing lately.

What does that even mean?

And if we are keeping score like this, he predicted huge things for Rizzo this year.

Fun with combined pitching and hitting fWAR:

Travis Wood: 1.6

Jason Hammel: 1.7

Matt Gara: 1.7
