Idaho Press-Tribune[/url]"]But an elbow stress fracture caused him to also miss last season, and on May 16, 2013, a year and a day after his Tommy John surgery, Conway once again underwent surgery on his pitching arm.

“The second surgery was a little different than the T.J.,” Conway said. “The T.J. was a little smoother. I got a screw put in my arm. No one wants that.”

Now, more than a year after his last surgery, Conway says his pitching arm is at about 90 percent, and he is more than anxious to finally make his professional debut.

“I’m just thrilled to death,” Hawks manager Gary Van Tol said about Conway’s opportunity. “Everybody in the organization is, because of what he’s had to go through with his injuries. When he takes that mound for his first outing, I know I’m going to take a step back. It’s going to be emotional for him, it’s going to be emotional for a lot of guys in the organization.”

Conway stayed at the Cubs’ spring training facility in Mesa, Arizona for an extra day, throwing a 50-pitch session on Tuesday before joining the rest of the team Wednesday in Boise.

He will start the season in the bullpen along with Ryan McNeal, another pitcher who is coming off of Tommy John surgery and missed all of 2013.

His fastball reached as high as 94 miles per hour, according to one scouting report, and he had a solid slider, which regularly showed a tight spin.

Schwarber is catching and batting third for Boise tonight. Weird seeing a top 5 pick play in games a week after he's drafted.

just another example of what a mistake it was to draft him #kyleposts

Malave batting third is weird. Pretty excited to see Jeffrey Baez too.

batting second, playing first, no?

Yeah, not sure why I typed third. Malave batting second is weird since Boise has experienced players who'll likely have more success than him batting lower.
