Ok, so I've been pretty patient with this but I'm sort of at a breaking point.

Why is Bryant still in Tennessee?

He needs to spend a week or two more in AA so the front office can't repeat the same [expletive] that they did with Rizzo. By the time he spends a year in AAA, he'll have passed the Super 2 deadline.

Really have to ask?

@RobbieAaron: .@RobZastryzny_8 sets not only a new season-high w/ 9 Ks so far, but also a new '14 @daytonacubs high. Through 7IP, 2R 4H 0BB 9K. 2-0 CLR

The game is at Clearwater. Does Robbie Aaron really go to all the road games, such that he is actually at the game watching?

milb.com has that game messed up, showing no relievers and listing Perakslis as having pitched all 8 innings with 12K/0BB. So I'm wondering if Robbie really has it right, and Zastrysny really did go 7? Or whether he got pulled after 5, and it was relievers K'ing people in 6th and 7th?

If Aaron's got it right, that would have Z with 25K/2BB/20.2IP since his injury/rest. That sounds interesting.

Kind of fun having him and Paniagua starting to look interesting after tough starts.

And to have Tseng and Rosscup both back.

Really need to start considering having Bryant skip Iowa. I doubt they do it though.

Bryant may be crushing the league even harder than Javy did, but he still has issues with strikeouts. Why would they need to consider having him skip Iowa?

Robbie is the Daytona radio play-by-play guy, so he definitely goes on road trips. I'm sure he's right but I'm not actually listening to the broadcast.

Why is Bryant still in Tennessee?

because there's a zero percent chance he comes up chicago until late april next year. the longer he's crushing in iowa, the more obvious it is that we're just stalling him. so we pretend like these arbitrary amounts of time at each level matter/mean anything. he'll go to iowa after the all-star break, finish the season there, start next year at iowa again, and then come up as soon as he looks hot (which is all the time).

This is the best answer.

I hope Baez and Bryant come up together and Alcantara is already up here raking.

i really hope it's a problem that he goes to iowa and destroys it from the start and doesn't strike out 35% of the time or something.

I think Alcantara, Hendricks, Vizcaino, and Rivero are the only prospects we have that will see the majors for the first time this year. Maybe Villanueva, if he heats up.....

What do people think the FO will do Christian Villanueva? I assume whenever Kris Bryant is called up to Iowa, we'll at least try him at 3B. Obviously Villanueva isn't worth stalling arguably our best overall prospect, but he's not that far removed from being a fringy top-100 prospect with a major league-quality glove at 3B.

He can't hit.

We'll probably just shuffle him around AAA for a few more years then give up.

If Bryant keeps this up I don't see why they don't start trying him out in the OF soon, other than to delay his clock and keep him down to "work on his defense". Obviously you want to make room for Bryant at 3B if he can play it, but he's got a less than average chance at sticking there, but Villanueva's bat is nowhere near ready for MLB pitching so you don't want to call him up for the sake of making a spot for a guy who probably won't stick at 3B. I could see Villanueva being swapped with Olt to get Olt more work on his swing in the minors (with Manny who has helped him before) while giving Villanueva a cup of coffee to see what he can do (basically what Olt is doing now splitting time with Valbuena), and then bringing Bryant up to AAA to start getting reps in the OF. That way you don't sacrifice any of your 3B prospects and make the inevitable move on Bryant to the OF a reality which in turn makes Bryant a starter in 2015 sooner rather than later, which the Cubs could truly use, clock be damned.

I don't see Bryant sticking at 3B, but you certainly don't move him off the position even 1% because of Villanueva or Olt.

He's OPS'ed ~.800 for 4 years and ~.650 for 2 months. He'll probably end up a passable major league hitter if his defense is good.

The thing about the leagues is they get harder as you move up.

And he's ended up with a nearly identical OPS in each one. But maybe these past 2 months tell us more than 4 years, who knows.

Isn't he a slow starter?

And [expletive] YEAH Javy!

I agree, but my point (which I should've made more clear, admittedly) was more about moving him to fast track him to the majors vs. not wanting to mess with other inferior player development. But it seems obvious they're taking the control and cost route with Bryant. Personally I think they should just Longo him and call him up then buy out his first couple of years of FA on a big team friendly contract after he shows he's the hulk we all hope he is. Granted, that's easier said than done.
