whitest offseason ever

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA 7m

Euro star Nikola Mirotic's deal with the Chicago Bulls will be three years, $17M-plus, league source tells Yahoo Sports.

3 years! Yes! Full bird rights. Learned our mistake from Asik?

DJ signed with the Pistons for the same deal basically. That absolutely unacceptable.

So they whiffed on Melo costing them Afflalo on the cheap. They [expletive] up this free agency. We are barely upgrading, losing boozer getting pau is an upgrade but losing DJ if a huge downgrade. So we have Rose Kirk and Jimmer as the only guards on this team?

And mirotic and mcdermott could very easily both suck.

I agree with the negativity. We got better but we are no closer to winning a championship than we were in April.

I'm guessing they are planning on some combination of Taj/Mirotic being able to play some SF and Pau playing some C? Or else that's an incredible log jam at PF if that's the only spot you play Taj/Mirotic. I like the potential offensive spacing a Rose/Butler or Snell/McDermott/Mirotic/Pau lineup or a Rose/McDermott/Taj/Mirotic/Pau lineup could provide. Edited by Cubswin11

I thought we had a club option on jimmer from the deal we got him on during the season. I thought the purpose of the waiver pick up was for cheap guard depth for next year.

yeah but I think we had to renounce all of that stuff so that we could use the BLE

So Kirk is the only backup PG? That seems risky.

It does, maybe try and move Randolph or Dunleavy to clear up room to add a backup or trade for one?

Re-signing Hinrich is beyond stupid. I love the McDermott, Miritoc and Gasol moves. Those are the kinds of things smart org's like San Antonio do.

But the Hinrich deal makes absolutely no sense . He is a horrendous player at this point in his career, and he was just above average in his prime . He can't shoot anymore and is easily overmatched by bigger guards. So you gave him a 2 yr deal ?! There is an exceptionally large number of better backup PG ' s we could have had at the same price, including Augustin. This is the sort of thing left over from the Skiles era that really , really pisses me off .

I think the guards are in general woefully thin. Gasol will help offensively overall, but we still don't have a wing that can score other than Rose. And not that Deng was a great offensive wing, but he was better at creating than Dunleavy. Jury is out on Doug, but as a rookie I don't expect him to be much of a shot creator either.

Rose/Hinrich

Butler/Snell

Dunleavy/McDermott

Gibson/Mirotic/Randolph

Noah/Gasol/Bairstow

My hope is that Mirotic proves to be a solid contributor and someone like Taj is expendable for a wing scorer

Pretty much everyone other than Rose and Hinrich are on a value contract. We should be able to make some trades if someone worth getting becomes available.

Have the terms of the Gasol deal been released?

Or they have faith in Thibs picking someone off the scrap heap that can help like he's done with Watson, Nate, and Augustin the past 3 years.

The only hope I see for a Bulls championship in the next few years is Mirotic becoming a star. Does Melo have an opt out?

Or trade for a star with assets. The problem is our best assets right now are players like Butler, Taj, Mirotic and maybe McDermott. After this year Butler will probably be overpaid with his new deal, so his value goes way down. After this year Taj will be 30 so his value will never be as high as it is now. Mirotic has to play like a 5-6 mil player or better this year to be a good chip, but I'm not sure that's possible as a 4th big playing 15-20 min per night. Basically this was the offseason to cash in your trade chips for a star player and the Bulls didn't do it. They might be worth keeping, I'm not saying yet that its the wrong decision, but I think it might be awhile before we have the 'attractive pieces' component for a trade for a star.

If nothing else, the Bulls have a lot of size.

in a league that is increasingly obsessed with going small.

Maybe this is GarPax recognizing this and creating matchup problems for teams that insist on going small.

Not getting the negativity over this Bulls offseason. Unless we landed Melo, getting Gasol and (finally) Mirotic coming over was probably the best scenario. None of the other big FA's were going to come here, and given the deal Melo signed, it's probably surprising he was even considering the Bulls.

If McDermott can provide an outside shot, I don't understand why this isn't a much better scoring team assuming healthy Rose.

But then again, I'm not very knowledgable about basketball and I don't really follow these guys all the time. I have more hope this year than I did last year. Obviously I'll be cringing every time Rose tries to make a cut to get by someone.
