not sure if i'm more surprised that oliver perez is still pitching in mlb or that he's only 32 years old.

I think that may be "baseball age". I think he signed San Diego in 1987 at the age of 6.

DFA or just toss him in the dumpster with the cake?

Can someone photoshop that? Or better idea, let's do to him what people did to Soriano in that glorious thread.

Rizzo-bomb!

This season is working out well. If we're going to suck, best to do it with Rizzo, Castro, and Samardzija doing well and Schierholz, etc. sucking. It would be triply depressing if we won 70 games because Schierholz had 40 bombs and Darwin Barney hit .330.

Just quit using him when the game is close.

Yeah, obviously it's a small sample size, but seeing Rizzo getting on base and abusing LHP is definitely nice. I'd feel a lot better about Shark if he wasn't squarely on the block, though.

I try to avoid overreacting, but I think you have to entertain the idea of DFAing Veras soon, under the assumption that he's physically fine and wouldn't go along with a bogus DL stint. He's only here for one year and his biggest value was as the nominal closer. He needs to have a pretty immediate turn around to have any trade value, and if he doesn't, his utility compared to the alternatives isn't that great. Within a week we'll have 2 LHP, Strop, Rondon, Villanueva, and Grimm all in the pen, plus Parker and Ramirez vying for a spot, and Fujikawa roughly 4-6 weeks from being a factor. The pen is quite simply not shallow enough to give Veras mop-up work if he's not going to be flipped for anything of value.

Castro isn't doing well. He's doing just as bad as last season outside of one good week.
