I think this is the game that breaks Tom Ricketts.

Which will obviously lead to ... what?

A lot of sad face, I guess. Not much else we can do.

Bummer. Was hoping it would be something worthwhile.

I could see Szczur getting called up. He's on the 40 man already and since neither him nor Vitters appear to be definitely ready, he's slightly less important and not as big of a deal if he gets ruined.

it is surprising how much i care about this, but it really does suck that pretty much the only time all year the cubs will get national attention (wrigley field is the top trending topic on twitter!) is a game that the we lose in embarrassing fashion and set up a million easy jokes about how it was the perfect way to commemorate the anniversary.

I think it's amazing and I'm glad it happened right in their stupid, smug, rebuilding faces.

Next year when we bring in the next crop of cast-off relievers, how about no one talks about how much better our bullpen is going to be.

If the offseason, the cubs sign Mike Adams and Koji Uehara, maybe take a flier on Joakim Soria, it's easy to imagine this bullpen being in much better shape next year.

That'll be fine as long as you don't mind Arrieta, Hendricks, Rusin as our 3-4-5 to go with the worst starting OF in baseball again

the bullpen is the easiest part of a team to build, with a smart front office like ours it will be no problem to pull one together from scraps

I'm kind of torn right down the middle on this. Local media people in Milwaukee are already making those jokes and they piss me off so I must still care. That being said, I hope the embarrassment hurts the Cubs leadership a lot more.

Thinking about it, there really wasn't any other way this game would go down. It happened exactly as it should have.

I didn't actually see the 9th, but wasn't most of the blame on Castro [expletive] up a play and that insane bounce another ball took off the bag and not so much on the bullpen?

It falls on Strop, IMO. He started the downfall by not being able to throw strikes.

Yes. The bullpen gave up 2 walks, 2 ground balls, 1 line drive, two catchable fly balls, and got 2 K's, and ended up 5 runs worse as a result. It was as fluky as a blown 3-run save can be.

Its kind of a double edged sword. You can say the walks don't hurt without Castro's error, or the outfield misplays. On the other hand, Castro's error probably doesn't happen without the walk, and definitely doesn't matter without the walks.

Basically it's an all-around awful inning put together to simply torture any remaining fans.
