When the former players laugh at the guys doing statistical analysis and talk about them never playing, it's Cameron who I think of. No personality at all and has the "I'm smarter than you" attitude to go with it. He seems like the guy that doesn't believe in scouting.

Cameron's too dogmatic about $/WAR stuff, but at least he's consistent so you can read his stuff through that lens. I didn't really learn anything new from that particular article, but in that light it was additional confirmation that the Cubs appear to have made an earnest effort at keeping Samardzija(please no 2nd place jokes, not the point being made).

they're actually in 5th (4th for drafting purposes).

This one is on Jeff, Definitely.

Does anyone have a shred of evidence (other than facial expressions) behind the claims that Shark doesn't want to sign here because we have sucked?

My best guess is that he will sign for the most money. Period. End of story. His comments about the team-friendly contracts and comments about wanting to go to FA are clear indications that he wants to maximize his deal. I'm not griping, he's perfectly entitled to that and if that comes around, I certainly hope he would consider the Cubs should the money be equal. I don't know of any explicit comments about not wanting to be a Cub due to losing record etc.

Hoyer just on MLBNR and Bowden still says he thinks Cubs re-sign Shark.

God I really hope they don't do something foolish like drop 20M+ annually on him.

I think it probably has to do with the length the Cubs want to go. 20M for 4 or 5 years is not a bad contract, but he won't do that. He probably knows this is the last mega-deal he will get in his career so he's going to see how much he can get.

I have to wonder if today might be the beginning of the end for Blue Jays rumors. Brett Lawrie breaks a finger and Bautista is getting an MRI on his leg. If both of these guys are going to miss significant time I can't imagine they'd still be willing to part with a big package for Jeff.

That's silly.

The Blue Jays aren't going to stop looking for upgrades because they lost a couple guys. They're still in first place in the AL East and have the second best record in the AL.

If anything, they're under more pressure now because they need to make sure they don't lose that playoff spot and the tens of millions of dollars it translates to in revenue. What's a couple risky farmhands compared to that?

Morosi has an article up that claims if the Jays offered Sanchez, Norris, and Pompey that they would get Samardzija, but they aren't willing to do that. There's also more allusions to how Shark would fare in the AL East thunderdome and how the Jays prefer Price or Hamels.

The Cubs are reportedly asking for three prospects, pitcher Aaron Sanchez, pitcher Daniel Norris and outfielder Dalton Pompey. The Blue Jays are rumored to be willing to part with maybe one or two of those players, but do not want to deal all three.

I can see the Cubs getting a return on Shark that most people will truly hate. I think they HAVE to trade him at the deadline if they want to exert maximum value. They should have traded him in last offseason.

That return is probably right about the median we should expect. It's not what Cubs fans unrealistically hope for, but it's certainly above what we got for Garza.

I love Daniel Norris and Pompey is intriguing. But unless the Cubs see something they can fix with Sanchez I really don't want any part of him as the #1 piece of a deal.
