it's really too bad that they only had but one Jake Arrieta to give us

It's not that bad.

Our best pitcher so far by both FIP and xFIP

When I said Gausman and Bundy, I meant Gausman and Bundy.

Yep, I want both.

Yesss, there's an OH thread on the topic: http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php/141338-Orioles-quot-Appear-to-be-the-Leading-team-of-interest-quot-to-Get-Samardzija

Nothing super outrageous so far, although this bit was pretty funny:

I know Theo is trying to seriously cash in on his career-low BABIP and more than one-run gap between his ERA and FIP, but let's try to stay sane here

That FIP of course being 2.79, 14th best in MLB.

Funny that the article calls him the ace even though the Cubs are 2-9 in his starts. Very little run support, I know, but aces are supposed to be "stoppers," seizing the situation for some way to win almost no matter what. The Cubs' losses with Samarzija starting have been by scores of: 1-0; 2-0; 4-1; 7-5; 3-2; 3-1; 2-0; 4-3; 4-2. His two wins were 6-3 and 8-4. I'm sure it will even out over time, but one has to wonder if he's one of those talented pitchers who pitches just well enough to lose, although the O's braintrust is probably thinking that with the type of hitting and D the O's provide he cd become a true ace.

I'm impressed. It's mostly reasonable discussion over there. Other than the dude proposing Ubaldo and Reimold for him.

That might be one of the dumbest things I've ever read. I mean you have to try hard to be that dumb.

Derrr...you are supposed to be the ace. How dare you give up 1 ER in a game we didnt score any runs in. You need to pitch to the situation.

I must say its a big weird reading Orioles Hangout again. The last time I followed trade discussions there the Cubs were looking to trade prospects to win now, and now its the opposite.

By this logic, if his ERA were 5.75 but he was 7-1 winning a ton of 8-6 games, he would be more valuable. Genius.

Welcome to the HOF candidacy of Jack Morris.

Jack Morris' postseasons are what push him into the HOF in my mind. That 10 inning shutout along with Kerry's 20 strikeout game are the best pitched games I've ever watched.

Really? That was like pretty much standard message board talk the first 6-8 years I spent doing this nonsense.

It was, but I've managed to insulate myself from that kind of stupidity for a long time now. It was a bit jarring for sure.

If Theo the God can pull it off for both Gausman and Bundy, that would be awesome. I do like Harvey though, albeit him being in Single-A. His numbers are pretty damn solid.

Well, the Cubs don't have to trade Samardzija since he's got another year of control. Given they're getting 1.5 years of Samardzija and the injury risk of pitchers (and Bundy already had TJS once), I expect two of their elite three P prospects.

By postseasons I assume you mean postseason and by postseason I mean single postseason game

I was over on OH last week and told them it would cost something like Bundy+Harvey+Competitive balance pick and they didn't really like that. With that said, that's pretty much my ideal package at the moment. I'm not huge on Gausman, the fastball is way too straight and he can't locate it half the time.

The rationalizations are starting to come in pretty thick now.

I believe the team has the internal options to improve the pitching. These guys are going to pitch better. And the marginal upgrade, if at all, from Gonzo to Samardzija isn't worth what would be going the other way. Not even close.

I mean, I get it, there's a more than logical argument to be made that the Orioles are not better off paying what it would take to get Shark. "He's not much of an upgrade on Miguel Gonzalez" is not high on that list of reasons, seeing as it is laughably false.

Side note, they do love their ERA and the fact that they're in the AL East. I like how it's turned into a de facto excuse for poor player development too, I wouldn't have thought of that one.
