No idea why they included the corked bat thing

God damn I miss those hops and sprints to RF so much

Wish the home run derby at turner field were on YouTube also. [expletive] was ridiculous.

With Pat Hughes' call too. That makes me feel things.

You quoted the wrong link, but yeah that Game 1 homer was at the time one of the most unbelievable events of my life. And naturally Dusty fucked it all up in extras.

But dude do you really want to face some 57 year old we released earlier in the year in a clutch situation?

Just realized I didn't include Soriano in this poll. That was a big mistake. He wouldn't have won, but belongs on there more than several others.

I don't think Sosa every hit a cheap home run. Every homer in a Cubs uniform was completely crushed

I fell into a YouTube rabbit hole watching old Sosa clips the other day after David's post and saw one, don't remember when, that barely snuck into the basket on a line.

I also distinctly remember a Sammy rainstorm HR against the White Sox (again barely snuck out) that was essentially a walk-off because everyone in the stadium knew there would be no next inning.

Best Sammy memory is of course from June 1998, but especially him crushing in the old Tiger Stadium.

His second 60th, which was the only major baseball moment I've seen in person, was in the basket.

if we're ignoring what they're like as people off the field, mark grace was always my favorite.

I voted "other".

My grandfather, who was born in 1908 and was featured on that ESPN 100 years thing they did always said his favorite Cub was some guy that no one else remembers. Even I can't remember his name. IIRC he was a middle infielder that committed suicide and I guess my Grandfather was touched by the dual tragedy of his life and Cubs career being cut short by whatevere possessed him to take his own life.

So Larry Biittner will always be my favortie Cub. He only had one good season (1977) but as a 9 year old kid he was the best player (in my eyes) on my favorite team. Honorable mention to Ryne Sandberg who turned the franchise around.

It's going to sound unbearably "hipster baseball fan-ish," but I was never a big Sandberg fan as a kid. Yeah, I loved that the Cubs had him and respected him as a player (as much as a dumb kid can respect anything), but for whatever reason I don't remember going out of my way to get his cards or have posters or whatever like I did for guys like Dunston or Dawson or even Grace (yeeeeeesh).

Same. I liked him but he was never on the level of Dawson or Grace for me.

Andre was my favorite as a kid by far. Then Sammy, but Wood had me from the 20 K game when I was in 8th grade and watched it live. I doubt I'll ever have the same love for players that I had for Hawk and Kerry.

Loved Wood after that, but it's funny, that was one of the few times I remember my dad actually being aware of a prospect and he was just so convinced that Wood was going to break down that it colored my opinion of him from day one.

It is days like this that I remember how much I miss Aramis Ramirez.

Indeed.
