Is there a date during the season that FA who have draft picks assigned to them lose that designations if they aren't signed? I'm just asking because I was trying to think of a market for Nelson Cruz today and can't find one, especially with the draft pick tied to him. Figured that if there is a date that players lose the pick being tied to him during the year if he'd be better off waiting until then.

Isn't it the day after the draft, which I believe is June 5th this season?

Draft starts June 5th and runs through the 7th. So I guess June 8th would be the first day a FA who has the designation could sign without it.

ABTY

I wouldn't be shocked if it's TV deal related

I'm gonna go with 40% TV deal, 40% rooftop agreement, 10% Tanaka related, 10% other

Looks like the rumor is that FOX is trying to attain WGN. If so, this could be absolutely huge for the Cubs immediate future.

Isn't that the Mooney article being talked about in Baseball Discussions?

The way Tryptamine worded it it was like FOX is trying to acquire WGN itself...which resulted in my reply above.

Nah, the Mooney article was talking about the Cubs possibly working with Fox after all of their TV deals are done.

Yeah, Fox acquiring WGN itself is a whole new ballgame when compared to Fox acquiring the current WGN controlled Cubs rights.. Although, if it does acquire WGN, there won't be any negotiating between WGN and Fox for the Cubs rights.

Is the ABTY tweet related to the Cubs thing or something else like a big trade maybe. .

As David said the odds are it's probably TV or rooftop/stadium related. Discussing the "gravity" of the situation suggests to me it's more of a longterm organization issue rather than a player acquisition.

So probably related to getting renovations/TV/revenue stream up and running sooner? Couldn't that help/be an important factor in Tanaka (IE: they can throw a bit more stupid money at him)?

Only partially related, but that tweet is obnoxiously self-important. You're a message board/Twitter rumormonger who's been incorrect a number of times, there are no repercussions because of the "gravity" of the situation if the info isn't quite right.

Yeah, and he got really offended when people said he's probably wrong about Tanaka last night. lol.

(funny not because he's definitely wrong but because a guy reporting rumors should expect to be wrong a lot and shouldn't be shocked when people notice)
