I'm waiting for the year that the team starts to tune out Thibs and begins to struggle in the regular season. It's definitely a testament to him and the players that it hasn't happened yet.

Please hire some sort of offensive minded assistant too. That game last night might have been the worst playoff game in recent memory.

I don't think it will be next year unless the Bulls don't get Melo (very likely) and Rose gets hurt again (also somewhat likely). If that happens it will fall back into "same [expletive] different year" and all the regular season success in the world won't help them forget being pantsed in the playoffs this year. But otherwise, there will be just enough change and just enough optimism for Thibs to get maximum motivation out of the players yet again.

I do worry though. Noah is the emotional leader of the team, and when he makes the "I'd hate you if we weren't winning Thibs" jokes, I believe he says it with a hint of truth. If you lose Noah, you lose the team.

Nba hell for the foreseeable future. I'm glad this team is done with

I'm not particularly optimistic about the Bulls immediate future but its silly to say they are in NBA hell for the foreseeable future. My pessimism is due to concerns that Rose is going to get hurt again/wont be the same player/isnt as good as we have built him up to be during his 2.5 year absence and the Bulls aren't going to be able to acquire that game changing player that we need and have been looking for the last 5 years. But its pretty clear that there are many many teams in the league in worse shape than the Bulls.

Isn't that sort of the definition of NBA hell? Being better than a large amount of teams but nowhere near the elite?

The Bulls are four parts away from being in the Finals next year: healthy Rose, drop Boozer, get Melo, bring Mirotic over. All could happen this summer. Bulls are in purgatory about done atoning for past sins. About to enter NBA heaven.

I'm pretty sure the definition of NBA hell is a second round series between the Hawks and Wizards.

Bulls/Hawks would have been much worse. The Wizards are actually entertaining. The Bulls are unwatchable.

Who murdered LeBron James in this scenario? Was it Buechler? Nobody would suspect him, it's perfect.

i can't believe that there was such an aversion to tanking that it caused this team to [expletive] itself even more than it already is.

Bulls beat them. Wade won't be able to walk next year.

I understand there is a prevailing attitude that the bulls play too hard in the regular season and that this is a negative and presumably Thibs fault. For all you folks who hold this opinion or some variation of it, I want it explained. Is it that you want Thibs to play worse players more or that you want the players to try less hard when they are on the floor?

Bulls minutes

Noah 2820

Jimmy 2592

Dunleavy 2584

Taj 2351

Booz 2141

Kirk 2116

Dj 1857

Snell 1230

Wiz Minutes

Wall 2989

Ariza 2723

Gortat 2655

Beal 2530

Webster 2157

Nene 1560 he was injured.

Booker 1553

So since there isn't really a cumulative minutes issue for the bulls relative to the wiz, am I too assume your argument is that Thibs players play with too much effort and a better coach would coach that effort down? You believe our players need to try less hard during the regular season that's the argument right?

And offensively Thibs can coach. This isn't football. NBA coaches are capable of understanding offense and defense. In 2010-11 and 2011-12 when thibs had the teams that the front office envisioned, we were 11th in offensive rating and 5th in offensive rating with the best defensive ratings in the nba. Best in differential both seasons. They only lost 1 playoff series with a healthy team and that was to the Heat in a competitive albeit 5 game series.

The idea of the bulls in nba hell is laughable and the people who say it are idiots and are absolutely ignorant of how the nba draft works.

No team can take a top 5 player with a max hold on the cap off their team and expect to do better than the bulls have done the past two years. Yes they have not won anything but they have delivered two fun seasons for us fans. That's a mission accomplished.

With Mirotic coming an potentially a healthy rose and some cap space we are in great shape going forward.

It's not even an aversion so much as it was practically impossible to begin with given how shitty so many other teams were and the crapshoot nature of even getting a pick making taking worth it. You've got people talking about tanking the season like the Bulls would have been a lock to land another Rose instead of realizing what a [expletive] nigh-impossible miracle that was in the first place.

Dan Bernstein maybe be a pompous a-hole but he nails the Bulls here:

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/04/30/bernstein-same-bulls-movie-ends-again/

Basketball is his best sport based on what I've heard, so it's not a surprise that he puts together a decent article on the Bulls.

Still, reading through this it isn't really his best work. He sounds disappointed here just like the rest of us. It's not really insightful, it simply tells it like it is. Which is really all there is to tell right now.

Bernstein is an idiot. He is not insightful about basketball either. His article about rose earlier this year made me want to vomit. I assume this article is dumb also.

Thanks for posting your assumed opinion on an article you didn't read.

Juts seems more like the usual "the Bulls were played too hard in the regular season," which hinges on the idea that the Bulls just suddenly hit a wall and collapsed in the first week of the playoffs or seemingly acts like nearly every other team treats the regular season as nothing and the Bulls are just pointlessly playing out of their minds/over the heads.

This isn't rocket science; playoff basketball is a different beast and the Bulls, yet again, were missing at least one vital, critical piece to be able to go anywhere.

It absolutely is. The Bulls are a middle of the pack team, purely due to the brilliance of Thibs being able to coach up his teams. The team ranks dead last in scoring and just doesn't have the talent to compete with big boy teams. As long as he remains the coach, his teams will do well in the regular season but continue to be squashed in the playoffs unless some major change is done. He won't tank a season for a top 8 pick which is what the Bulls desperately need. Something has to give.

They are definitely in NBA hell barring any major trades, although I am optimistic that GarPax sees what we all see in this team. Push the button.

Most of the picks in the top 8 in any given year aren't going to do anything to fix "basketball hell." Tanking is not the surefire answer so many here want to desperately convince themselves that it is.

If we'd have been bad enough to tank we'd be discussing all sorts of other problems with the roster and we probably wouldn't be in any kind of running for Melo or another difference maker.

Basically we'd have a much different view on Noah, Gibson, Butler, etc. if we were truly bad and instead of being pumped to add Rose back into the mix we'd all be saying "wow, this team is very far away even with Rose and a draft pick."
