Most of the picks in the top 8 in any given year aren't going to do anything to fix "basketball hell." Tanking is not the surefire answer so many here want to desperately convince themselves that it is.

It gives you a roll of the dice that you won't be able to get aside from wooing a big FA name to your team. Now if we're talking about a small market team like the Bucks, rolling the dice is the ONLY way that they can improve their chances winning a NBA title.

What is your surefire answer?

To bring back a healthy rose. Add Mirotic amnesty booz and bing in the best free agent possible. HOPE for a rotational player I'm the middle of the first round. Usually the 6 pick is a rotational player. A good selection at 17 has a very very real chance of being better than the 6 pick. Look at past drafts. Soooo many bums go high lottery.

There is no surefire answer, but seeing what you have in Rose, trying to bring over the Euro guy and building in addition to that is sure as [expletive] a better gamble than tanking for a longshot draft pick (especially since likely would have meant Thibs not being here and horrible years by key players). The only way a tank pick is anything close to a sure thing is if you knew you were getting one of the top 3 picks AND if your horrible year had actually been the result of everyone intentionally being terrible as opoosed to just actually being terrible/fired/injured/traded.

I'm waiting for the year that the team starts to tune out Thibs and begins to struggle in the regular season. It's definitely a testament to him and the players that it .

I understand there is a prevailing attitude that the bulls play too hard in the regular season and that this is a negative and presumably Thibs fault. For all you folks who hold this opinion or some variation of it, I want it explained. Is it that you want Thibs to play worse players more or that you want the players to try less hard when they are on the floor?

Comparing the Bulls minutes to another team's minutes doesn't make any sense -- if you honestly think the Wizards bust their ass as hard as the Bulls do in the regular season, you're wrong. There's a lot more hard milage on the Bulls minutes as opposed to a team like Washington's.

How about resting guys like Noah and Butler when the game is in doubt? Playing guys 40 minutes a game for a game in January against the Bucks, or playing them with two minutes left in the game when they're up by 18 isn't very smart. Again, I think it's a tremendous testament to both Thibs and his players that they bust their asses whenever they're out there. But not every game needs to be treated like Game 7 of the Finals. For the majority of the game last night, the Bulls just looked fatigued. So not only are you not as talented as the opponent, but now you don't have the same energy level as the opponent either. That's...not good.

Thibs can't coach offense. The regular season literally means nothing. I'd hope that everybody would eventually figure that out, but that's a losing battle. When the other team is giving maximum effort and when halfcourt sets become more important, the Bulls just absolutely struggle to put the ball in the hoop.

One more Rose injury and he's Mark Prior. Personally, I hate the fact he's already on a max deal and we're stuck for 3 years longer holding our breath he can get and stay healthy.

Flames24Rulz, I think I get your point. The bulls need to try less hard during the regular season building up their effort reservoir so they can go max effort in the playoffs sort of not always using the turbo button all time in video games!

Quick follow up question for flames24rulz. Honest question. Do you think it was misguided for the heat to go 37-2 down the stretch last year? Do you think it was misguided of Spo to play Lebron 38mpg for that stretch? Do you think it was stupid that he played:

48 minutes in a 12pt game against the kings in Feb? And then 42mins and 42mins the next two games against NYK and MIN?

Or do you think the Heat were able to play at 80pct effort during that stretch so it's ok?

Does Lebron have a history of plantar or any injuries, for that matter? Sometimes you need to know your personnel. Its obvious that THIS team has looked worn down in the playoffs. Unless you just agree they're not that talented, with or without Rose. The bottom line is the team, as constructed, didn't come close to beating Miami in year 1, then has been injury-riddled since and over matched in the playoffs. Change is needed. Plenty of it, if they want to be a legit title contender.

The lack of Rose (or Rose+) and Thibs' focus on defense looked FAR more glaring than the team looking fatigued. And if you're arguing fatigue due to how they play the season that's one thing, but the injury theory has been debunked time and time again. Plantar is either something you can play on or can't; resting doesn't help it.

The teams that actually take it easy in the regular season are the ones that can afford to because of how well they're constructed; most teams simply have bad stretches or just aren't very good to begin with. The goal should be to improve the team so you have the luxury of being like the Spurs; just playing guys less thinking that's going to be the trick to get further in the playoffs is faulty. That only really works when you have guys of the talent level who can just turn just turn it on and off and still likely kick ass.

I blame GarPax much more than I blame Thibs actually. But I definitely will wait until I see more success from Thibs in the playoffs before I buy in totally on him.

Without Thibs this team is likely in a much, much worse place to build from.

I've never completely bought into the "most NBA teams coast in the regular season" thing. There are times when it appears the best teams get a little overconfident and sloppy when they play bad teams because their focus doesn't have to be there and bad teams can get pretty selfish but that's a part of why they are bad in the first place. I'm sure there are times when every team doesn't go 100% (including the Bulls) because there are a lot of games and non of them are THAT meaningful but I think the amount of times players and teams take it easy is a little overstated.

The only team I ever thought coasted at the end of the reg. season was the celts from a few years back. They almost won the championship but they had a deep team full of hall of gamers and probably the most front court depth ever.

The spurs aren't coasting either. They are playing to win the game. Popovich is tryin to win unless he is making a statement to the league about Back to backs. Playing Duncan leonard and Parker 30 minutes instead of 34 is more about his rotations and less about him trying to win. He has more competent players than thibs and has the luxury of a larger rotation.

Also, to my knowledge there has never been a credible linkage between minutes played and injury.

If we'd have been bad enough to tank we'd be discussing all sorts of other problems with the roster and we probably wouldn't be in any kind of running for Melo or another difference maker.

Basically we'd have a much different view on Noah, Gibson, Butler, etc. if we were truly bad and instead of being pumped to add Rose back into the mix we'd all be saying "wow, this team is very far away even with Rose and a draft pick."

Could not agree more with this.

New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony met at American Cut in NYC with Phil Jackson this week and was reportedly “in tears.” Rumor has it that the terms of their discussion was about Carmelo committing to signing with the Bulls as soon as Friday. He cannot physically sign with Chicago until July. I think it’s going to extremely difficult for Melo to turn down Phil.-TO

If he turns down Phil to join the Bulls, that has to be considered a pretty big upset, right?

I dunno.

He wants to win and isn't getting younger and basically said so in his end of season interviews with the press. Doesn't want to be a part of a rebuild at his age and wants to win and there is really no way for the Knicks to get championship contender good by next season.

Oh, plus Phil has already publicly campaigned for Melo to take less money. Who knows what effect it'll have on him but players usually seem much more reluctant to take paycuts from their own team than to do so elsewhere.

lol I love how there is a picture taken with Phil and Melo eating, so obviously they met, but the rest is almost certainly completely made up.

I really don't see Carmelo and Thibs working out. I guess I'd be ok with it because it would give the Bulls a nonzero chance to win the title (basically whatever the chance is Carmelo and Thibs actually would mesh), which is better than they would have without him at this point. But I'm not super-jazzed about the idea.

Thibs has to realize that the team as currently constructed even with Rose and Mirotic isn't getting out of the East. Thibs will adapt. I don't think he's that dumb. He wants to win.
