So we kind of got a slightly younger Pierce Johnson for Hairston?

Maybe a Starling Peralta type. Just got moved to High A, will turn 22 in September.

Pineyro appears to be a cut above what we've seen from Peralta state-side.

At Low A:

Peralta:99 IP, 3.44 ERA, 7.8 K/9, 3.8 BB/9, 1.0 HR/9, 7.2 H/9 at age 21

Pinyero: 66 IP, 3.14 ERA, 8.9 K/9, 2.3 BB/9, 0.5 HR/9, 7.8 H/9 at age 21

The thing with Peralta was always untapped potential. Basically, the fact that he had decent enough numbers, and there was hope he could be better. I have no idea what happened this year, though.

As for Pineyro, I think it's a very nice return. They got a guy with decent upside. This is Hairston, after all. A useful player, but not something we should expect too much on, and getting an intriguing arm seems a solid return.

PTBNL going each way as well. Arguello made a really solid point, just a minute ago. Says Cubs got a better individual player for Hairston, than the Marlins got for Nolasco. I think I'd agree actually.

I'd disagree with that. I think people are under-selling Angel Sanchez. Sanchez has a higher ceiling than Pineyro, IMO.

Sanchez is almost a full 2 years older, has spent most of this year in A with a little bit of time in A+ (just like Pineyro) , only has a slightly better K/9 and a worse K/BB...

Sure, I get all that. But he said this Arguello guy said that Pineyro is better than Sanchez, which seems to imply that this Arguello guy thought Pineyro had more talent/better ceiling, which I think is under-selling Sanchez. Maybe I should find out who Arguello is and see what he wrote.

By no means is this a knock on Pineyro. I think I saw him this year in A ball, although I'd have to doublecheck as I was just out with some people. I like Pineyro. I think this is a very solid return. Just think people are under-selling Sanchez.

IMO, the Cubs got a better pitching prospect for Hairston than any of the 3 guys the Marlins got for Nolasco.

??????

like 4 months younger, very similar numbers (worse K/9, better bb/9, better K/BB, near identical HR/9), with most of this year in A and a promotion to A+ under his belt.

i don't know enough about pineyro's repertoire to know how that compares, though

ptbnl going to cubs: ian dickson

ptbnl going to nationals: henry rodriguez

Didn't we just pick Henry off of waivers from Washington?

Signed out of the Dominican Republic at age 18, Pineyro spent two seasons in short-season ball but moved quickly this season, earning a mid-June promotion to the Carolina League after a strong first half at low Class A Hagerstown. He commands the strike zone at 90-93 mph while also throwing a solid-average changeup and fringy breaking ball. Pineyro impressed the Nationals with his quick recovery from a line drive to the face during 2012 extended spring training, showcasing his toughness and poise. In case you aren't joking, Dickson was traded for Rodriguez last month.

Doh. I couldn't remember and wasn't about to actually look it up. My bad on that one.

It's OK. We all whiff sometimes. Just last week I asked if we could get Profar for Garza.

Five times this year Washington gave Pineyro seven (or more) days between starts. Does anyone know if that is a common policy for them to keep innings down or if there were specific concerns for Pineyro?

Isn't he coming off an injury?

The only injury I'm aware of is the line drive to the face last year. That shouldn't require special handling this season.

Ah yeah. I had just forgotten what the injury actually was.

Glancing at the IP and GS totals of those at similar levels, Pineyro seems to be middle of the pack. Definitely doesn't seem like an outlier.
