A year from now, this will be cited as another "failure" by Jed and Theo.

Then he'll have a sub-.300 obp and only mojo will care.

He's a pitcher.

If they ever get around to winning, they might get more slack.

Yeah, because with a capped 110 mill type payroll and what they inherited, its easy as hell to turn that into a winner quick.

@BenBadler 9m

If Miguel Gonzalez can get 6/48, what's Carlos Rodon worth on the open market? Because he's way better than Gonzalez, and it's not close.

Forget Rodon. Imagine what Strasburg or Harper would have gotten in the open market.

would you have gone 10/200 to harper as an amateur? i could never give that to an ammy pitcher, but for Harper I think I would have cut the check immediately.

Can't wait to hear Badler's outrage about Mike Trout's salary

Right it'll be another failure by Tom Ricketts

What an oddly late response. Do you or do you not think Theo has had the ability to spend freely under Ricketts to this point?

were you trying to say 3 years would be "quick" to turn a $110m payroll into a winning club?

I do not consider a capped 110 mil payroll the ability to spend freely

if it's a winning team that is young at the major league level, still has a very good farm system for the future, and doesn't have any bad contracts.... then yes. that wouldn't just be a turnaround for the major league team, it would be a massive turnaround in the entire organization..... in 3 years.... with a capped payroll.

Phil's signed him for 3 years and 12 mill total with an option. Injury issues knocked it down from 6/50 or so. Wow.

Right now it doesn't look like we should expect a "winning team" next year, so I don't think we can talk about a "turnaround for the major league team" just yet.

Rotoworld sez:

Phillies pitching coach Bob McLure said Sunday that Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez could resume throwing on Monday.

McLure noted that the shoulder soreness that Gonzalez has been dealing with is only minimal. It's been a disappointing Grapefruit League season for the Cuban right-hander, posting a 16.87 ERA and 4.50 WHIP in 2 2/3 innings. He's expected to begin the season in the minor leagues.

Yeah there have been some underwhelming reports on him this spring, too. I think I read his velocity was down.
