As it stands now, the #Cubs could have as many as eight prospects in the Top 101. That's #rig.

That's just stupid. I wonder when they last pulled that off.

No clue, if ever. I'm guessing 6-8 are Edwards, Olt, and Pierce for Parks though.

So the Cubs could hypothetically get up to 9 people on people's Top 100 lists at the end of the season. Some are big stretches (aka Vizcaino) but still

Baez, Soler, Almora, Bryant, Alcantra, Olt, Edwards, P. Johnson, Vizcaino. Am I missing anyone?

The first 4 are pretty much gimmies, Olt should be on there if he keeps hitting like he has recently, Edwards might be close to the backend if he pitches well in Daytona. Is Johnson on people's radar? Vizcaino probably not if he doesn't pitch at all this year, but who knows.

I feel like the only question marks on that list are Olt and Vizcaino. Olt because he has to continue to be productive at AAA while not losing rookie eligibility before season's end, and Vizcaino because he hasn't pitched in two years. Everybody else is a virtual lock for most, if not all, top 100 lists IMO.

Vizcaino doesn't stand a chance at making those lists. He also may not be a real person.

This is how I feel.

Trying to figure out who Parks is referring to, the first six seem obvious to me:

Albert Almora

Javier Baez

Jorge Soler

Kris Bryant

Arismendy Alcantara

Pierce Johnson

Not sure about the other two. Vogelbach and Edwards?

Olt and Edwards are easily on the list. Pierce Johnson...maybe.

Parks said he preferred Johnson to Edwards in a tweet last night.

Parks has said he prefers Johnson, so he's definitely on it. And yeah, I guess Olt makes more sense than Vogelbach.

Zastryzny is not even remotely close.

it's amusing looking at our offseason top 50 and seeing that 4-10 probably wouldn't make our top 10 for next year.

Also, UM, it's Alcantara.

Olt is in the top 10. This shouldn't be that difficult.

Yeah. I'd say he's solidly in it. That said, this discussion is really about the top 8, since they're trying to figure out who the 8 are that Parks is talking about.

It's crazy to look at the top 10 of the Cubs system from July 2011 and July 2013. The interesting thing is that the only holdover major league pieces that have been removed from the organization since Theo and Jed coming on board are Dempster, Garza, Marshall, Cashner and Ramirez (I'm not counting Soto and Marmol as they were both hot garbage). Even if the Cubs did have those guys, the major league team would still be, at best, mediocre.

Folks, we're in great shape with Theo and Jed.

Beginning with the 2011 IFA/draft, we've diverted almost every possible resource toward the acquisition of prospects. And now we have a ton of prospects.

It's a good start, but I'm not lining up for an isosceles lock with Jed and Theo just yet.

yeah, not many gms get this sort of free pass with the present in an effort to focus on the future. It's not that hard to build a surplus of prospects under these conditions.

Pretty much. I appreciate it to a point, but I'm waiting for them to master the whole "putting together a good Cubs team" thing before I start passing out cigars.

I think we should be ahead of the Marlins, although I really love the Marisnick/Yelich/Heaney trio at the top of that system.

Marisnick and Yelich both got called up today. They all of a sudden are an interesting team to watch the rest of this year. Marisnick, Yelich, Stanton, Morrison and Fernandez is 5/9 of their lineup today.
