Nike announced that they will unveil the new Fighting Illini rebrand on April 16.

 

Considering they've been about as plain and boring as possible since the NCAA made them remove all references to Illiniwek in logos, jerseys and gear, there's a lot of improvement available for the new brand.

He wasn't interested in the Illinois job, but takes that one. Interesting...

 

When the UI job opened, was the Big East not yet a steaming pile of crap? If not, I can see why he'd want to get out of Marquette a little more now. The quality of that conference has taking a serious dip.

I'm pretty sure that it was at least on it's way. With Syracuse and Pitt already leaving.

This was my thought. Maybe after seeing the new Big East with his own eyes, he realized that taking a true power conference gig would be stepping up.

Funny how Seth Greenberg was fired at Va Tech. They were half way competitive. Now, not so much

 

As for Williams not taking the Illinois job, there are a lot of reasons coaches take some jobs and turn down others. I think Williams is kind of similar to Weber in that he probably would not have done a great job getting the top in state players. This was one of the biggest critiques of Weber as a coach among Illini fans. So maybe Williams was able to recognize one of his weaknesses and didn't want to put himself in a vulnerable position. At Va Tech he will have a long leash and be able to coach up lessor recruits. Not sure how long Illinois fans would have given him. My guess is Groce would be having huge issues if his teams have not finished the last couple of yrs so strong.

Nothing like a road game at 10 am when you're the higher seed. Why did they start this so early on a Sunday morning? Seems pretty ridiculous, even with the other tourney games today.

It's not like the games are all during the day either. There is only one game at a time during the day. Would playing a NIT game at the same time be that bad.

This has been a horrendously officiated game. Letting guys beat the crap out of each other all game and then they start calling ticky tack crap the last 3 minutes. Just not fair to the players.

There is a lot of scuttlebutt around here that Abrams and Tate may be looking for other avenues for their BB talents next season.

 

I'll pack his bags and buy him a ticket out of town. I love his attitude and motor, but he isn't skilled and he isn't smart.

 

Illinois could be pretty good next season, and the chances of that will be negatively correlated with the minutes Tracy gets, imo. If he transfers, that'd be swell.
