@BruceMiles2112: #Cubs option Dolis to Iowa. That will make room for Loe.

That was quick.

Question for any of our resident Brewers fans: was Loe the one who was cut because he kept missing practice due to a sleep disorder?

No, that was Zach Braddock. A lefty who could hit mid 90's and I think he's out of baseball now

Hahahahaha.

Takahishi sent down.

Loe and Kevin Gregg called up. So much for just being roster fill.

Lillibridge out. He is being replaced with Cody Ransom, who was last seen striking out 109 times in 246 PAs last season.

#Cubs will have roster moves today. Hoyer to discuss with media at 3:30 p.m.

Lillibridge being cut, I'm guessing.

few days ago you admonished me for suggesting that Lillibridge be cut from this team before Gonzalez. The old "because he's better at baseball than Gonzalez" argument. I didnt think it was true then, and neither do the Cubs today.

I'm not saying Gonzalez is any good, just less sucky.

CUBS ACTIVATE INFIELDER DARWIN BARNEY FROM D.L.,

ADD RIGHTHANDER KAMERON LOE TO ACTIVE ROSTER,

SELECT CONTRACT OF RIGHTHANDER KEVIN GREGG

LEFTHANDER HISANORI TAKAHASHI DESIGNATED FOR ASSIGNMENT,

RIGHTHANDER RAFAEL DOLIS OPTIONED TO TRIPLE-A IOWA

TUESDAY, APRIL 16, 2013

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated infielder Darwin Barney from the 15-day disabled list, added right-handed pitcher Kameron Loe to the 25-man roster and selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Kevin Gregg.

In corresponding roster moves, left-handed pitcher Hisanori Takahashi was designated for assignment and right-handed pitcher Rafael Dolis was optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Barney, Loe (who will wear uniform number 50, starting tomorrow) and Gregg (who will wear uniform number 63, starting tomorrow) will be available for the Cubs tonight against the Texas Rangers at Wrigley Field.

Gregg, 34, has spent all or part of the last 10 seasons in the big leagues, including the 2009 season with the Cubs. Gregg carried a 3.35 ERA (18 ER/48.1 IP) and converted 21 of 24 saves chances (88 percent success rate) into the month of August before being slowed by left knee soreness the final two months of the season. Overall, Gregg went 5-6 with 23 saves and a 4.72 ERA (36 ER/68.2 IP) in 72 appearances. He struck out 71 batters in 68.2 innings and limited opposing batters to a .229 batting average and a .312 on-base percentage.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Gregg followed his season with the Cubs by collecting a career-high 37 saves and posting a 3.51 ERA (23 ER/59.0 IP) in 63 appearances with the Blue Jays in 2010. After spending the last two seasons with the Orioles, Gregg went to spring training this year with the Los Angeles Dodgers and posted a 0.82 ERA (1 ER/11.0 IP) in 11 appearances, limiting opposing hitters to a .088 batting average and tallying a 0.27 WHIP.

Overall, Gregg is 28-38 with 144 saves and a 4.13 ERA (293 ER/638.2 IP) in 509 major league appearances (eight starts) with the Angels (2003-06), Marlins (2007-08), Cubs (2009), Blue Jays (2010) and Orioles (2011-12). He signed a minor league contract with the Cubs on Sunday after being released by the Dodgers on April 3.

Loe, 31, was claimed off waivers by the Cubs from the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. He has pitched all or part of nine major league seasons with Texas (2004-08), Milwaukee (2010-12) and Seattle (2013).

Since moving into a full-time relief role with the Rangers in 2008, Loe has gone 15-18 with three saves and a 3.81 ERA (100 ER/236.0 IP) in 213 appearances. Overall, Loe is 33-41 with four saves and a 4.44 ERA (271 ER/549.0 IP) in 306 career big league appearances, all but 47 in relief.

Barney, 27, batted .500 (5-for-10) with one double and four runs scored during a three-game rehab stint with Iowa that ended yesterday. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 1 with a left knee laceration.

Takahashi, 38, posted no record and a 6.00 ERA (2 ER/3.0 IP) in three relief appearances with the Cubs this season.

Dolis, 25, recorded a scoreless relief outing in his lone Cubs appearance this season.

Chicago’s 40-man roster stands at 40 players.

In the long run, he's probably not, but Gonzalez's homer bought him another month or two.

Hopefully Ian Stewart shows signs of life and we don't have to worry about any more bums buying themselves any amount of time.

We're stuck with one of the bums (Ransom or Gonzalez) even after Stewart comes back.

I think the real question is when we get to DFA you.

There's always going to be one of these guys on a team. However, they should be either a defensive stud or have a good enough bat to make up for it. These guys offer neither.

Since we are dumpster diving for third basemen, where is Kevin Orie and Gary Scott? :hello:

Neither of them have played organized baseball in quite some time. I don't think signing either would be a very good idea.

Could make it easier to get that #1 pick though.
