the "now" part was for Jackson. although I still don't understand why they don't like Kolek but are fawning over Rodon like he's so much safer.

It's not all about safety. Rodon has a legit secondary pitch (slider) while Kolek doesn't yet and also seems to have command issues.

Command and secondary pitches can be developed, 100 MPH can't. Also, he doesn't seem to have control issues (8 walks in 60 innings), which speaks well for his ability to develop command.

8 walks in 60 innings is pretty meaningless when you're throwing 100 mph heat to 15 year olds. those dopes will swing at anything.

If the three pitchers go 1-2-3, I would love to see us not sign the pick.

I doubt the front office would consider that however.

Hoyer openly talked about his frustration regarding not being able to trade draft picks. And looking at how this draft is likely to play out - I viewed his comments as frustration regarding where the Cubs were picking. Seems like they would love to trade up or down and would prefer not to be at #4.

And just thinking about the recent changes to the hard cap. Why you would make that change for competitive reasons is understandable, but to put price tags on the slots, and not allow trades is silly.

You've got to think its only a matter of time before they allow the trading draft picks.

Don't scout high school stats, especially since Kolek faced weak competition.

Hello Gents--

Long time reader, first time posting...I know an amateur guy out east but he travels all over the country looking at the top talent. He believes Aiken and Kolek will definitely be gone by 4 but Rodon has a possibility to slide to our pick and that we'd definitely take him. If the 3 arms are gone, feels like we'd take Jackson. Also mentioned Beede and Freeland as possible sleepers.

53/33 BB/K

5th in NCAA in OBP (1st among power conference players)

Tied for Pac-12 lead in HR (conference games only, 3rd if you include non-con)

Led Pac-12 in total bases (conference games only, who knows including non-con)

Don't know who but someone suggested Kyle Schwarber earlier if he could play OF. I now see him listed as a C/OF in mocks; if he can play LF, I'd prefer him to Conforto or Pentecost.

He played LF when he didnt Catch this year and looked too slow play at the next level.

Welcome. According to Marlin it's looking like Aiken/Rodon or underslot right now. At least that's what I got out of his latest message.

Kennesaw State won their regional so Pentecost's college career isn't over.

Conforto and Oregon State take on Taylor Sparks (potential second round 3B) and UC Irvine tonight on ESPNU at 7 pm CT. It's an elimination game.

@aaronfitt: Schwarber just smacked a 2-run HR over party area beyond FR fence. A no-doubter—don't see many of those these days. Except from Schwarber.

Game is on ESPN3.

@kileymcd: Notes trickling in on pre-draft workouts. Interesting one in KC: FWall hit, SAdams, Kopech & JGatto pitched, Medeiros & FGriffin also there.

@kileymcd: Another interesting draft note: Blue Jays' heavy hitters were rolling deep in Tallahassee yesterday & today to see Max Pentecost.

It really is unfortunate that he has a very minimal chance of sticking in the OF. His bat has the type of upside I would OK with as a COF.

@aaronfitt: And Kyle Schwarber just ripped a 90 mph Brakeman fastball into the right-field corner for a 2-out double.

There's more polish to Kolek than someone like Colt Griffin, there's also less wear and tear and better mechanics than Wood.

Barring some odd choice, I can't see myself being upset.

This draft on a national level is opposite of here in IL compared to next year.

15 is looking bad locally but better nationally and tank for Cameron.

Conforto just faced a shift with 3 infielders on the right side of second base and 4 outfielders close to the warning track. Flew out to deep left-center to the third baseman.

UCI was doing that the other two games these two played this weekend.

Also:

@aaronfitt: UC Irvine is bringing back ace Andrew Morales to start tonight. He threw 107 pitches Friday. He is a 5-10 round talent. I really hate that.

LOL.

Were the outfielders spread across the outfield or were they shading to the right as well?

Stanford brought Cal Quantrill, who looks like a first rounder in 2016, out of the pen on 2 days rest after a 104-pitch start.
