Brandon Saad

first 8 games- 0 goals, 0 Assists 0 total points

next 30 games- 9 goals, 14 Assists 23 total points

Translated to a full season, that's 20-25 goals, 35-40 assists.

Just to put that into perspective:

Patrick Kane's rookie year 21 Goals 51 assists--year 2 25 G 45 A

Jonathon Toews rookie year 24 Goals 30 assists--year 2 34g 35 A

he has like 18 points or something like that in his last 16 games, with a ridiculous +/-

man, how good can saad be? he is lighting it up right now. even if they don't win the cup this year, the emergence of saad and leddy is huge going forward.

also, they now have the best goals per game average in the entire nhl, AND the best goals against. that's hard to do.

Yeah, sorry to Carcillo, but his injury may have been one of the best things that happened to the Hawks this season.

saad would have been up early in the season even without the carcillo injury though

The Hawks have 62 points in 38 games. In 03-04 (last pre-lockout year) and 05-06 (first post-lockout year) the Hawks averaged 62 points in 82 game seasons.

Also the Hawks have 29 wins this year. In the 9 seasons between 1997-1998 and 2006-2007, the Hawks averaged 29.8 wins per season. I realize that the post lockout changes have led to more wins overall (instead of ties) but that's still nuts.

I don't watch the Hawks like you guys do, but I am also impressed with his overall game. He seems to work his tail off on both ends and is tough in the corners. Of course that could just be my smallish sampling of watching.

Nope, you're seeing what we've seen much of the season. He works hard and isn't afraid to use his size. Having Toews and Hossa as examples helps, too, but Saad definitely took a step forward when Hossa went down.

Dex, this is what I was getting at. I don't think Saad would have been given the same chance to show what he had without Carcillo, at least not as soon. I don't know if his season turns out the same if Carcillo doesn't go down right away.

That Hossa theft was delicious. Soooo damn good.

Cool that it was the difference in the game, too.

Hawks have now clinched no worse than 6th. Win over Detroit Friday and they clinch the division.

I think they still need some combo of 3 points to clinch Friday since the Blues won last night.

It's hard to say what would have happened. He might have had to wait until Sharp got hurt to crack the top 6 on a consistent basis. In a saeason where they haven't been practising as much it would be hard for him to move up the ladder except by getting a chance in games.

With everyone back, I'd like to see this line up for the playoffs

Saad-Toews-Kane

Sharp-Kruger-Hossa

Bickell-Bolland-Stalberg

Shaw-Handzus-Frolik

The first line will draw the top defensive line of the other team, leaving the second line to wreak havoc. The 3rd and 4th lines should be pretty effective too.
