Just looking at the schedule a bit. Middle is looking pretty rough. Beginning and end looks easier, but the heart of it is full of tough games.

The Bears need to take those first two games at home. At the end of the first 4, I'd say anything less than 3-1 would make a playoff run tough to achieve, given what comes down the pipe in Oct/Nov.

I keep looking at the schedule and thinking it looks pretty difficult. There are a lot of winnable games, but not a ton of games that just jump out as gimmies, and the ones that are (STL, CLE) are on the road.

The home schedule looks especially tough. Cincinnati, Minnesota, New Orleans, NY Giants, Detroit, Baltimore, Dallas, Green Bay. I think 5-3 with that slate would be great.....obviously think we can take Minnesota and Detroit at home, and Dallas should be a winnable game.

Yeah, I'm hoping we catch CIN in a less-than-prepped state. They can't be happy with what they saw this weekend. I know it's only preseason, but I think the Bears will know pretty much exactly what they want to do. On the other hand, CIN won't have anything to prep with.

That's my hope, anyway :). I'm glad that game is at home.

Starting 2-0 would also do wonders for Trestman's time as Bears HC, too. I still believe it will be difficult for him to recover if things go south early and he gets to a place where people are questioning whether he's really cut out to be an NFL HC.

Can't start slow this year.

I just can't get myself worked up about the schedule until we get a couple games under our belt. The schedules strengths and weaknesses are so different as the season progresses.

Yep, you're right. Right about now I feel comfortable commenting about it but a ton can change.

STL on the road ain't a gimme anymore. In fact the Jags and Raiders are only two teams I've seen that just about everyone should beat no matter the location. Maybe the Bills are a shade above now that they have no QB's.

Yeah, plus I think a lot of those teams could be better/worse than expected. I think Pittsburgh and Baltimore could be lackluster. Rams will be tougher than expected. Injuries will make a huge difference both ways.

Former Chicago Bears linebacker (and now current analyst for Fox Sports One) Brian Urlacher is quite the opinionated fellow, recently suggesting that he’d be mad if his former team ended up winning a Super Bowl.

Granted, that was a bit tongue and cheek, though, his most recent comments directed towards Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson aren’t as friendly.

The Pro Bowl linebacker told Fox Sports (via CBS) that it was Wilson who ended Urlacher’s career prematurely:

During an interview with Wilson on Wednesday, Urlacher credited — or blamed, depending on your point of view — the second-year quarterback for ending his 13-year career.

“Russell, I’m not sure if you know this or not, but you ended my career basically last year on that third down in overtime,” Urlacher said, via FoxSports.com. “You were rolling out, I was trying to chase you. Trying to chase you down I popped my hamstring and missed the last four games of the season. You ended it.”

That's an odd way to look at those comments.

That's a mischaracterization of the context in which he made those comments. Brian was quite obviously lighthearted about the Wilson thing, laughing as he said it.

Nothing that was so significant as to be memorable. Just that he was more impressed with the offense than the defense. He has concerns with cornerback depth (understandable) and said it's real easy to play defense when the QB is throwing the ball right to you. But, as a caveat, said that the defense didn't do anything negative, just that he wasn't feeling as positive about them as he was about the offense after that game.

What sort of convoluted attribution is this? He was on Fox Sports when he said this stuff. Did this writer find out about it from somebody at CBS?

I think we limp into the bye at 4-3, with losses against the Bengals, @Lions, and Giants. After the bye I think we lose @Green Bay, home against Baltimore, and @Minnesota, while winning the rest, including the last 4. That'll give us 10-6 which surely can't keep us out two years in a row.

Yeah, analyzing the schedule is mostly pointless, but it's still fun to do.

I'm looking for the Bears to make 1 trade before the season. Jon Scott still not practicing. But I still think the team will gamble by trying to trade J'Marcus Webb, if there are any takers. Clearly needs a change of scenery. I think Eben Britton makes it (experience at both OG spots) and is the swing OT until Scott is 100%.

Bears could probably use another CB, while keeping UDFAs, CJ Wilson and/or Demontre Hurst on the practice squad.

Yeah, they definitely need CB depth. It's a steep drop if Tillman or Jennings goes down.

DJ Williams has been upgraded from week-to-week to day-to-day. Henry Melton began running yesterday at practice. Still too early to be sure he plays week one. Earl Bennett isn't even to that point so it looks like he could miss the season opener.

Surprised Kyle Moore was cut.

I presume they'll hope he is available to resign at a later time, but they need to have a 3rd QB in the weeds in case the worst happens and Blanchard has the broken hand.
