Jay Cutler on spreading football around: " You guys are hitting the panic button after two preseason games and 30 plays."

@ZachZaidman

Jay Cutler: "Yeah, we're going to spread it around. We can't just throw it to Brandon and give the ball to Matt."

We can't just throw it to Brandon and give the ball to Matt, sometimes we'll have to punt.

Hub embarrassed himself on the score again today.

Also, Kyle Long has the highest grade from PFF of any rookie, so that's cool.

What stick got up Hub's butt again?

just tripping all over himself to call the defense old and Jay Cutler bad.

Which show was he on? Having trouble finding it.

B an B hour 4 I think. Between 530 and 6.

Well that explains it. For some reason I only see podcasts for the first 3 hours.

Source confirms @LanceBriggs report: Bears LB Jon Bostic fined for his hit vs. #Chargers. (Lowering the head on a defenseless player's body)

Posted

How does a player not lower his head when going to make a tackle? The head has to go the same direction as the rest of his body.

The contact was clearly initiated by his shoulder, not the head. There's no way to avoid the head being involved in a tackle. It's got to be what the player leads with. In this case, it's the shoulder.

http://beargoggleson.com/2013/08/15/watch-chicago-bears-rookie-lb-jon-bostics-monster-hit-gif/

I also disagree that he's defenseless. He's right there, and can see Bostic coming at him. He even makes a move to try to avoid the hit. That's not defenseless by any sane rationale.

I don't see how these rules are actually going to be enforced, other than referees and league officials just making it up as they go along.

Is a shitty rule/policy that they have put in place pretty much just to make it "look like they care" about head injuries and concussions. The result is going to be shitty subjective calls all year that aren't consistent that will end in stupid fines and possible suspension.

I never thought there would be a chance he would get fined. A flag wasn't even thrown.

A lack of a flag is fairly meaningless in the "will he get fined" discussion. The play doesn't seem to warrant a fine, but there clearly is precedence for doing this.

It's a nice message to send to a developing player. You know that thing you do that makes you a potentially exceptional NFL linebacker?

Yeah.....don't do it.

Like Sulley said, Kyle Long is the highest rated rookie through the first two weeks of preseason...

That draft day thread could end up being pretty hilarious.

“I try to be careful with this stuff,” Arkush said. “I don’t look to get too far out on a limb if I can avoid it, but Phil Emery just blew that pick. I’m sorry. I’m not going to back away from it. I don’t like Kyle Long in the second round. You go back and read the scouting reports on this kid… Yeah, Howie is his dad and Chris is his brother and he’s a big body who was a classic underachiever.”

“I believe we heard Emery quoted several times in the last couple of weeks (saying) that there’s a couple of guys that we love – that we know what we’re going to do when we get there. If this was it, wow. I’m a little taken back by this one. I was bummed with Shea McClellin last year. This (pick) makes that look like they (got) Barry Sanders with Shea McClellin. I don’t get this pick. It’s disappointing”

That's it. If they are going to do this sort of thing they might as well stop tackling. It was a vicious clean play, that's football. The NFL is simply trying to keep up appearances.

It's a violent medieval blood sport. We need to recognize that and be ok with it.

I was up in Chicago the first week of June and caught a show that Hub was on and he was blaming the lockout on PFW going under. This right here is probably a much more likely reason, on top of the fact that he comes off as a complete douche and people probably don't like him or want to help him.
