so... Bushrod, Long, Garza, Carimi/Slauson, Webb/Carimi?

I doubt he'll be the starter in year 1.

Emery said he can come in and contribute right away. I don't see any way for an OL to contribute right away if he isn't on the OL.

And he was drafted in the first round, so he better freaking start somewhere.

One of the worst picks/reaches I have witnessed. This is just baffling. Why is Phil taking guys that would have been there a whole round later?

May tomorrow be a better day.

At least there were two worse ones tonight alone.

I got EJ Emmanual as one, what's the other?

Vikings cleaned up. Who needs the other picks when you get 3 great value picks in the 1st?

it won't mean a thing with christian ponder at qb.

It will mean plenty.

He's also 24 years old, 25 to be in December, so that makes him a pretty old rookie and shortens his "prime" window. And he's got some pretty bad off the field concerns. I'm sorry, but this pick has some nasty warts.

Yeah the Cowboys drafted a guy they probably could have gotten comparable value for in the 4th round

Eh, I'm not too worried about age. Football careers are short anyways. In fact in the instance of Long it is offset a bit by the fact his body has taken less of a toll to this point (which is also offset by inexperience)

Allright, I guess I'll take the defeated stance of at least we took a guy that could start for us. Even if I think it was a big reach. On the 2nd. Lots of guys I really like still left. Take a WR like Hunter, Allen, or Woods, I'm happy. Ertz? Happy. D-line still has Carradine, Hankins, and Short available. Happy with any of them. LB has Brown, Minter, even Te'o. Happy there as well. DB? Still have Banks, Alford, and Cyprien. Again, good value. I think my top 5, in order, would be Hunter, Ertz, Brown, Minter, and Allen.

So, everyone is up in arms based on where the regular talking heads had Long rated, correct?

We just watched guys like Star Lotulelei, Sharrif Floyd, Bjoern Werner, Cordarelle Patterson, and Geno Smith fall WAAAAAAY down from where these guys were projected to go. Meanwhile, guys like Lane Johnson, DJ Hayden, Eric Reid, and DeAndre Hopkins went way sooner than anticipated.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that these guys are wrong. They're relatively accurate with their prognostications. However, to act like it a wasted pick because he wasn't the guys everyone was talking about is a little out of line.

Also, for everyone talking about how Long was a mid second round pick... Kiper mocked him at number 30 to Atlanta yesterday.

I'm not saying you should praise Emery. I just think it's a little early to be asking who the next GM is, even if it is hyperbole. Let's see how Long does before condemning the pick.

I think Hopkins went where he should have.

I know you're a Raiders fan but I thought they got bad value there too.

Yeah, but I don't think it was on the same level as the Cowboys or Giants. [expletive], I really wanted Star. Mayock loved Hayden, but I don't now... ugh. The roster is so terrible.

I don' think the Raiders got bad value on their pick. I would have liked that pick if the Dolphins still had it. It just seems like an odd choice considering their needs and all.

I was definitely happy to get the #3 for only #12 and #42, though. Just goes to show that the old trade value chart doesn't mean as much as people claim it does, and the player matters much more.

I don't pretend to know anything about any of these guys that got picked.

But how can I be happy about our GM consistently picking surprises who all the experts think should go lower. At the very least, it means that he isn't savvy enough to maximize the value of the pick.

To me it means he thinks he's out smarting everyone else.

Extremely unlikely.

Much more likely? He's not that smart. Which is bad news if you are a Bear fan.

O-lineman went early and often. Is it impossible to think that the personnel people for NFL teams had O-lineman valued higher than the experts did?

Man this draft really killed my excitement. I won't be watching live next year.

So you're saying the game threads might be tolerable?

I was talking about the draft numbnuts. Reading comprehension fail :(

Boy don't you wish they'd just drafted Te'o?

Peppers, Melton, Floyd, Shea/Wootten.

One can only dream

Melton and Floyd would rarely be on the field together.

Emery said Long was the best lineman at the senior bowl. And Kromer adored the man apparently. Looks like they plan for him to compete at G immediately and eventually become an OT, apparently even LT.

I'm intrigued and hoping they're not dumb. But Kromer is smarter than most about lineman, and the OL needed the help. I know Slauson has played C before, that could make this move even more interesting. I don't wanna get into the value stuff, but with no 3rd rounder they can't move up in the 2nd without dangling future picks.

I know the need for LB/CB/DT is there, but I'd like to see them pick up someone like Ryan Swope today. I still want to see an offensive weapon they can put in the slot. Especially with Bennett and Jeffrey's injury history.
