Yeah, really hope WGN has absolutely nothing to do with the Cubs on TV as soon as their current deal is up.

I assume you'll be providing me with the funds for EI once that happens then?

I wonder how many subscribers the Cubs could get if it got to the point that TV channels became al a carte and they charged, say, $120 a year for a Cubs network.

Ian Stewart formally added to the 40-man to replace Beliveau.

TCR speculates he could be outrighted if we wanted to to try and save his spot, risking him to waivers or electing free agency, neither of which seems likely.

Two late night pieces of news:Passan is reporting Dickey for D'arnaud, with multiple other players going both ways is about to go down. Secondly, Mike Adams appears to have signed with the Phillies, 3 years-18 mill.

Damn, depending on those other pieces that's a really nice return on Dickey. If somehow or another Syndergaard or Sanchez is in that deal too then it's an absolute steal.

On a side note, when was the last time that 3 of the top 10 prospects in baseball were traded in one off season?

I keep thinking that it's a shame that we don't have a few assets that can be traded (for quality returns) this offseason. It sure seems like a lot of teams have decided that, after years of building, they can't wait anymore (Toronto, Kansas City, Seattle come to mind). Add in the usual big spenders, and there's a lot of teams still looking for stuff, with the top wave of FA's off the field. A lot of quality prospects sure are being discussed and moved. (Travis d'Arnaud in any package for RA Dickey seems stunning, unless the Mets fork over a very solid prospect)

I still don't expect it (and like before, I'm not necessarily pushing for it either), but I still occasionally wonder what a Jeff Samardzija could net in this market and whether or not it would be worth it to move him.

[expletive], I wanted Adams. Double [expletive], the Phillies were a potential suitor for Marmol.

Look at the bright side - with every trade that happens and every FA signing, we get closer to realizing the plan of getting the first draft pick.

The Astros are still out there leading the caravan to prospectville

They don't count because they don't have a "plan".

I think they have a pretty good plan in hiring the guy who built the Cardinals minor league system that's been producing solid ML talent for the last several years.

*Siiiiiiiiiigh*

Not encouraged that we were discussing thinking about signing him?

there is no difference between you and backtobanks in this thread

Joel Sherman of the New York Post confirms that the Mets and Blue Jays are nearing the completion of a seven-player trade involving knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.

As currently constructed, the trade would send Dickey, Josh Thole and an unnamed (non-elite) prospect to the Blue Jays in exchange for Travis d'Arnaud, John Buck, Noah Syndergaard and an unnamed (non-elite) prospect. Nothing is expected to be finalized until Sunday, so the parameters of the swap could certainly change before then.

The Blue Jays know he's 38, right? I know knuckleballers have a longer lifespan, but still, that's a lot to give up for a 38 year old, isn't it?

They certainly are giving up a ton, but damn. What an offseason for them. Melky, Reyes, Bonifacio, Johnson, Buehrle, and Dickey.

True. The division is probably the weakest it's been in over a decade. Mine as well go for it now.
