This group took over an organization with basically zero pitching in the minors at any level. In one year, they added Vizcaino(ranked 40th by BA, pre-TJS), Paniagua(definite breakout candidate that likely hits AA in 2012), Pierce Johnson(2/3 upside thats likely to hit Daytona in 2013) Paul Blackburn(midrotation type thats advanced for his age and could move quick), and Duane Underwood(very raw, but plus makeup and likely the highest ceiling of anyone in the system). Hell, we've added more than that actually, that have chances to hit the rotation. At any rate, one more year of us adding another class like this and plenty of teams will be envious of our young pitching.

So 1 guy who'll crack the BA top 100(maybe?) this year.

Re: TV Money

It's ridiculous that we feel the need to wait until the WGN deal expires to spend the money we'll be getting from them? Like we can't project what kind of revenue bump is going to come with the new deal?

I think it's more complex than that. The team's uncertain burden for the Wrigley renovations might mitigate a lot of the WGN money considering what percentage of the total TV contract it is.

So we can't spend money until 2019?

I didn't say that, I'm just saying there's more factors at play than just "we can be pretty darn sure more money is coming, so we shouldn't have to wait to invest it".

Upton will obviously cost much less than Stanton, not sure we could have much left over if he dealt for Price AND Stanton, but once you factor in another high pick in 2014, large IFA budget, and any talent we acquire in selloffs between now and then, its a possibility.

That scenario also figures in another terrible team in 2013 meaning we have to make up 25 wins in one offseason in order to not punt 3 consecutive years.

Considering they didn't even spend their top draft pick on a SP, thats pretty good. With legit possibilities of multiple guys from my list becoming those type prospects at some point.

But if the WGN money is mitigated by renovations, isn't that the case?

How many teams do you think have legit possibilities of multiple pitchers becoming top 100 prospects? 25 or so?

One, we're likely to be a 70ish win team in 2013. Two, adding a SP like Price or Felix and a hitter like Upton or Stanton, puts you halfway to that 25 win area on its own. Do they go further and add an Ellsbury or Something in FA? In this scenario, do it. Still though, you don't have to do everything at once, some could come at yhe deadline.

Thank you for your response. I am away from the computer, pleasuring myself to the thought of high draft picks and ifa budgets in perpetuity. I will return at 2pm, leave again at 2:35pm, return again at 3:15pm, and depart again for the rest of the day at 3:30pm. If your message requires a reply, I will respond when I return.

SSR, I'd think its around 15 or so, that have the upside arms that we do. And I'd add that not a single team added as much pitching as we did in the past season.

@TBrownYahoo Confirming @joeontheradio report, industry source says Angels indeed getting close on a deal with Hamilton. Not quite done.

Can someone set that up? I laughed my ass off. But come on, I'm not and never have said this will take us forever to accomplish. I do think we'll be sellers in 2013, which sets up 2014 as having the big IFA budget and high picks. That doesn't mean we can't compete in 2014 though, depending on what else happens between now and then. And it doesn't mean we have to sign high end players this offseason either. But damn, I'm fully aware I'm a broken record. That was phenomenal.

Bourjos would be a nice fit for us, if Angels get Hamilton.

Absolutely. If he can put up a .730ish OPS with that elite level defense and good base running I'd be thrilled. Not to mention a combination of Barney/Castro/Bourjos would make the Cubs a tremendously strong defensive team up the middle.

Do you guys think it would take a lot to get him? I wonder if they are still interested in Marmol? Marmol+$$$$ for Bourjos would be a pretty nice trade for both sides.

I think Bourjos should cost less, honestly. He's a bench player in LA, and his overall numbers don't impress that much. He should be able to be had for less than Marmol, IMO.

That being said, I like him on the Cubs
