What doesn't make sense? Schools like OSU get criticized for cupcake non-con schedules, but as soon as they get on the phone with LSU or Florida, they're told that those schools have no interest in traveling to Columbus. Sure, they'll host a game and then have a neutral site game down the road from their campus, but a simple home/home? No interest.

 

I really wish the schedules were made by an independent body instead of AD's

 

Yes, good teams get criticized for their schedules, that's part of college football, and most of why you made your original post to begin with. That doesn't mean that anyone has the obligation to play road games in a certain area of the country. To speak specifically to Ohio State, they haven't played anyone from the Big 12 in the regular season since 2006, so blaming the SEC for them playing a FCS/MAC/MWC/PAC12 non-con or similar each year(which isn't really worthy of criticism) looks pretty silly, to say nothing of the games that are actually being played in the north by the SEC on a regular but infrequent basis.

There are like 3 good football programs in the north/Big 10. Who cares about geography, especially when the games are played in September, when the upper Midwest is still mild?

 

I think it matters to get them out of their homeland.

It would matter even more if they had to play bowl games outside the confederacy once in a while.

I'd like to add that USC played at UCF last year which was UCFs only loss. The AD was widely criticized prior to the game by most fans. That was a dumb no-upside game and even though UCF ultimately won a BCS game USC didn't get a lift from that win.

 

A loss, even against a really good team at their place, is so much worse than a quality road win in the eyes of the votes. When that changes teams will be incentivized to schedule a solid home and home.
