So since SEC teams refuse to schedule road games against good teams, how will they meet this mandate if the other conferences tell them to [expletive] off?

Last year SEC teams played at Indiana, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, Oregon, Texas, Alabama played Virginia Tech in Atlanta, and Mississippi State played Oklahoma State in Houston

This year SEC teams will play at Clemson, Florida State, Oklahoma, Louisville, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and LSU is playing Wisconsin in Houston

You're talking about finding 14 opponents among 4 conferences. It probably would not be difficult to find enough weak teams within those conferences willing to play.

There you go with your facts again. Careful, you're going to destroy the narrative.

I honk you are making his point for him.

LSU facing Wisconsin in Houston is not really a road game.

It's certainly not a home game. Baton Rouge is about 5 hours away. In any case, I doubt that this fact would cause Wisconsin to tell the SEC to [expletive] off in the future.

Not all teams in the SEC are like that; LSU and UCLA will be playing a home and home soon and Tennessee did that about five years ago.

It isn't, but it's away from home so I included it. That makes 15 such games in 2 years, so even if you throw it out the numbers add up in aggregate.

And how far away is Madison?

The point was made that other conferences would tell the SEC to [expletive] off because they don't go on the road. I don't think picking one neutral site game which is closer to LSU than Wiscy makes this point. LSU has played or is about to play Oregon, Virginia Tech, UCLA, Arizona and on and on.

Yeah if I had to guess that should be a 50-50 game attendance wise for fans. Wisconsin fans travel well. I believe Wisconsin and Alabama play at Dallas next year too.

The LSU/Wisconsin thing is actually impressive on the Tigers' part because they're playing another game at Lambeau in 2016.

Alabama's annual home game in Atlanta or Arlington I'm not so much impressed with, especially after they canceled a home-and-home with Michigan State to keep loading up on neutral-site paydays.

In the end I suspect this requirement will lead to more SEC teams going on the road occasionally. Even if most of those games are against the Colorados and Indianas of the world it's a net positive.

Ole Miss is playing Boise State in Atlanta to start the CFB season in August. I guess back when they scheduled it several years ago, that was going to be a difficult game. Not so much anymore.

I'll clarify.

Since SEC teams refuse to schedule road games against good teams NORTH OF THE MASON DIXON LINE, how will they meet this mandate if the other conferences tell them to [expletive] off?

It's talked about here all the time: SEC teams simply refuse to sign home-and-home's with OSU, Michigan, etc. They want home-and-Southern Neutral site.

Yes, there are exceptions. Alabama played at PSU, etc. But overall, nearly every game you mentioned are against other warm weather teams, or at warm weather "neutral" sites

Posted
Does a southern team playing in the north really matter since it would likely be early season anyways?

It seems to matter to the southern teams who refuse to sign simple home-and-home's

Posted
How's that compare to other major conference teams though? It doesn't seem like too many teams go out of their way to do that.

That's....nonsensical. If you want to hold it against a conference that they don't play enough non-conference games in a certain geographic area, feel free, but it doesn't actually mean anything.

What doesn't make sense? Schools like OSU get criticized for cupcake non-con schedules, but as soon as they get on the phone with LSU or Florida, they're told that those schools have no interest in traveling to Columbus. Sure, they'll host a game and then have a neutral site game down the road from their campus, but a simple home/home? No interest.

I really wish the schedules were made by an independent body instead of AD's

Except for when they agree to a game in Houston and GB against Wisconsin

There are like 3 good football programs in the north/Big 10. Who cares about geography, especially when the games are played in September, when the upper Midwest is still mild?

I think it matters to get them out of their homeland.
