Bad calls, Cutler injury, the bottom line is the Bears left too many points on the field last night.

- Davis fumbled across midfield, going in the direction of the wind. The Bears would have had a 2nd and 3 from the 48, a make-able 1st down...with 1 more 1st down needed for FG range. Worst case, Houston doesn't get a short field and get a FG. Potentially a 6-point swing.

- Bush's fumble was at the 32. FG range. 3 points taken off the board

- Cutler's 1st INT (on Davis) was in FG range. 3 points taken off the board. Granted they did get the ball right back and got a FG on a short field.

- The throw to Marshall was perfect. Not sure why he didn't catch it. Bears got a FG that drive (I believe). 4 points off the board.

- The pass to Forte down the middle of the field would have been a TD (I think with a better throw, some think with a better catch). 7 points off the board.

- The "illegal forward pass" BS call, the Bears would have had the ball at the 2 1/2. Hester got to the 5, add on 1/2 distance to goalline due to penalty. Probably took off 7 points. At worst 3.

- Cutler's 2nd INT came with the Bears about 6-7 yards away from a sub-50 yard FG.

- Play calling after the long pass to Marshall potentially took 4 points off the board.

- The Bears also punted from the Houston 37. Their own 44. And obviously missed a FG.

Houston didn't really come close to scoring other than when they actually scored. The Bears should have won this game despite the terrible calls, Cutler's injury, and Kellen "The Devil" Davis.

Honest question. 50 starts into Jay Cutler's Bear career. From what you've seen is he a franchise QB? He currently is the 26th ranked QB.

He sucks. Bring back Orton! :P

You begin to appreciate Cutler when you see the sheer ineptitude of his replacements or see how much better he is than his predecessors. It's not fair to compare him to Rodgers, Brees and Brady. Not saying he's in their league by any means but Cassel and Flynn looked like franchise QBs as replacements in those systems. No Bears replacement has even looked remotely like he deserved to be in the NFL.

Yep. Between the crappy play calling, sub-standard receiving corp (until this year), and awful O-line play thus far in his Bears career, all combined with the 1-5 record last year after he got hurt, yeah, I'd say he's done really damn well.

Is he a franchise QB? Yes

Is he capable of winning a Super Bowl? I have my serious doubts. He's a guy I have a hard time seeing produce 3 good games in a row vs. other good teams. He still throws off his back foot a TON.

Just saw that Ray Edwards was released... I hope Bears take a chance and pick him up (I know he sucks this year and has 0 sacks). Why not right? With Shea maybe being out for next week, we could use a little depth at DE.

What you guys think?

It's funny, because I'd reverse my answer to those two questions.

You don't think he's a franchise QB, but he is capable of winning a Super Bowl?

After a bit of research, I've discovered the #49ers are 0-0 in games following a tie under Jim Harbaugh.

I have my doubts as to whether he is a franchise QB (whatever that term means, basically I'm saying I have my doubts that he'll ever actually be really, really good) because of some issues.

You definitely don't need to be really, really good (or a "franchise QB") to win a Super Bowl.

Bears had some interest before, but I don't see the point now. He hasn't been good for a few years and the Bears have plenty of DL depth.

Not to many bad QB's have won the Super Bowl recently though. I guess it depends on how good you think Big Ben is.

I think Cutler get a bad rap because of his O-line, but I understand the doubts.

Whether Davis rebounds or not, the Bears are expected to give rookie fullback Evan Rodriguez reps at tight end this week as they search for consistency at the position. Rodriguez opened eyes in training camp with his receiving ability and had three catches for 49 yards in exhibition play. He missed two regular-season games with a sprained MCL and hasn't caught a pass.

Also Jeremy Shockey and Kellen Winslow are both FA's.

Not "really, really good" doesn't = bad, though. And I hate to keep qualifying because of the subjectivity of the term, but not all QBs who aren't franchise QBs are bad, either. *shrug*

Did the Patriots drop him? I felt like they picked him up...

Winslow signed with the New England Patriots on September 18, 2012. He then asked for his release and was granted it on September 27, 2012, after only playing in one game.

I'm more interested in Shockey, honestly. He played decently last year for Carolina.
