i'd probably just retire if i was cutler. lots of money, hot but disposable and imminently upgradeable wife. i dont think i'd want to spend my twilight years baking imaginary loaves of bread.

You have the benefit of an unconcussed brain to make that decision with.

My concern is -- how many more concussions before that decision starts to be made for him, or at least strongly recommended by doctors...

Can't be too many more. And AGAIN, we can't protect him in the pocket.

Its not so much the concussions but the constant hits that might not be concussions

It doesn't help that when he decides to scramble he'd rather dive head first or lower his shoulder instead of sliding. Oh and when he is under attack in the pocket he'd rather keep his eyes down field instead of tuck the ball and just take the sack. The guy refuses to protect himself.

Do you think any good QB takes his eyes off the field when he's under pressure, and just goes down?

NFL fined Texans LB Tim Dobbins $30,000 for hitting Jay Cutler - even though Dobbins claimed Cutler ran into him.

That seems low.

It's like 70% of what he makes in that game.

Should've taken it all.

Absolutely not, but there are situations where he should just take the sack and restart instead of throwing a pick or taking a huge hit.

The Chicago defense just gets better and better. This week's game had a -64.5% defensive DVOA, making it Chicago's second-best defensive performance of the season, behind Week 3 when they beat St. Louis 23-6 and kept the Rams to just 160 yards. The Bears are very close to breaking the -40% barrier on defense and now rank as the second-best defense we've ever tracked through 10 weeks, behind only the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneeers.

Bears trying out new Punters @ Halas Hall today per Zach Zaidman.

:good:

Thank God. Podlesh has been increasingly terrible this year. He's like Maynard without the directional kicking ability.

No excuses, but I wonder how much of that is a result of the injury he had in the preseason, and if there's something still lingering there.

Sounds to me like Lovie is still holding out hope that Jay can play on Monday.

“I know a lot of you would like to know about Jay Cutler and how he is doing,” Smith said. “He is getting better. Still evaluating him. He’s meeting with people. Seeing medical staff, our trainers and all of that. But he is getting better. We do have a little bit more time and that is always good.”

Also, Soldier Field getting re-sodded.

Asked about Gould’s criticisms, LeFevour said, “Those are ridiculous comments. He doesn’t know what he is talking about. The field has not been an issue all year, and we haven’t heard anyone else complaining.”

LeFevour pointed out that this season after Gould complained about not having enough space on the sideline, Soldier Field roped off a special area where he can practice his kicks.

“He is never satisfied,” LeFevour said.

Told Wednesday that Soldier Field was being resodded, Gould said, "Obviously, they saw it was an issue because if it wasn't an issue, they wouldn't have to re-sod. Obviously, the field was in pretty poor shape. That's the only reason you resod a field."

They re-sod the thing multiple times every year.

Yeah, they already did a few weeks back.

I'm waiting for the parks guy to say Gould is only mad because he missed a kick.

Funny how Gould's compaints become public immediately after uncharacteristically missing 2 fairly easy (for him) FG attempts in his last 2 games on the field.

I don't think it's the first time he's complained about the field on that show.
