Game 10 - BEARS @ San Francisco 49ers - 7:30 MNF

Saw this and thought I'd post it since were talking about the difficulty of filling the QB position....

That's ugly. Shows how clueless the Dolphins are. Meanwhile, the Packers go from Favre to Rodgers, while developing Brunell, Hasslebeck and Flynn as backups.

Meanwhile the rest of the NFC North has had at least one of those guys on the Dolphins list as QB at one point or another.

Now I'm kinda glad I didn't spend the money for tickets, flight, hotel, etc.

Yay. I'm getting really drunk for this one.

It's too bad you can't time drunken-ness so it only happens when we have the ball.

Still hoping we can pull this out on D/ST.

Is Alshon back?

He should be - he practiced in full pads today.

Eh, Bears are still going to win this game. (see my game preview)

Alshon is going to play. Sounds like Evan Rodriguez is going to be more a part of the passing game. I think a full week of practice helps Campbell. He's better than Kaepernick (if he plays) and he's every bit as good as Alex Smith. I like the Bears chances of not turning the ball over 4 times. And the Niners aren't going to score a whole bunch of points against our D.

Dang, just hope Cutler is ready for Minnesota. I always fear a Jahvid Best type scenario.

But yeah, one could argue that a more conservative QB like Campbell is better suited against this D anyway. I envision tons of slants to Marshall and screens to Forte.

D or ST will probably need to score one this game.

Yep. I'll really be disappointed if we don't win this one.

49ers fans saying that Alex Smith had gotten most of the practice reps this week.

Oops.

I can't imagine that that's actually true. That was out there, but that had to have been a misdirection attempt. Why wouldn't the 49ers know that Smith wasn't going to play, or, at least, that it was very much in doubt?

Nice. Hope Capernik(?) is a Caleb Hanie type.

Rotoworld described him as a mix between Randall Cunningham and Tim Tebow, wtf? That's a pretty wide range of talent there.... I saw him play a couple times in college and he was a great system QB. I haven't watched him play in the NFL yet.

Last week he played after Smith went down. He was running a lot. Keeping containment on the ends is going to be important.

I read somewhere online that he wasn't able to get the neurologist to clear him to play. I'm guessing the 49ers were expecting him to play. If he really did get most of the practice reps this week, the Niners are going to get a lot of heat for seeminly rushing him back. But I don't know exactly how the protocol works. I believe he passed an initial concussion test earlier in the week so maybe they thought he was good to go. Maybe he was passed by their doctors and the independent neurologist wouldn't clear him. Either way its interesting.

The NFL should just put in an automatic one game sit out rule when a player is officially diagnosed with a consussion. That's probably not enough, but it's something. Or at least do it for players who are on their 2nd+ concussion.

ALso, why doesn't Cutler get one of those helmets like Rodgers started wearing after his last concussion? It seems to be working for him.

I agree. 1 game automatic (unless there's a bye week following the concussion) is a good rule to put in place. It takes away the temptation and guessing games.

Although it could make it more tempting to not diagnose the concussion in the first place.

The only problem is that you are going to get players trying even harder to conceal concussions. In their minds, its hard enough to be forced to miss the rest of the game. I could be wrong on this, but I would think is easier for a Safety to hide a mild concussion from the team than it is for a QB. You'd hope a lot of players would care enough about their own safety to tell their coaches when they feel funny, but I don't many would if they could get away with it.

I agree in principle this would be a good rule to implement though.

I guess it goes hand in hand with having a third party doctor, agreed to by the players and ownership, evaluate the player. Even with that there are going to be situations where the players can and do hide them.
