Gotta love the talk of BPA and then pretending this want awful.

What do you actually know about Kyle Long, outside of his name and the position he played in college last year?

Are you positing that this pick wasn't a reach? Are you saying he was the best player available when the Bears selected? He is should help them win more games than anybody else who could have been selected?

I'm positing that your opinion on what is or isn't a reach is completely worthless if you don't actually know anything about the players in question.

It's really not. That's what the internet is for. Finding information about stuff you don't know about.

All you guys going crazy over draft picks make me laugh. Nobody can predict the future. You don't know how these picks will pan out.

that doesn't make the pick any less of a reach. value now is value now, regardless of what happens later on. by reaching like that, you squander value.

hell, they could've done the [expletive] atlanta trade and probably would've been able to draft long at 30

It *is* hilarious how these drafts make people crazy, but your point isn't really what it's about. It's about who is getting decent value at the positions they draft.

if baseball fans can't have an opinion on the drafting of a player they haven't seen play firsthand, then pretty much nobody can criticize any selection of a high school player except for the 12 guys who fly/drive around the country watching them.

pretty much all of the people who make a living evaluating college football players and assessing their draft stock think that the pick was a reach. that's plenty of reason to think it was a poor selection, even if you haven't watched every game the guy has played.

Yep, that's exactly what I said. There is certainly no margin between being an amateur scout and having a hernia because your team somebody besides the 5-10 players you likely actually know about. You guys are terrible, and it's hilarious.

But there is close to a consensus out there on the web. Nobody had him as a 3rd round pick, which is what Goony was wrong about. He can add his caveats like, "it's only because the run on OL" but he's still not right calling him a 3rd round pick.

Dude, the point is it's time to call a spade a spade on this kind of [expletive] pick. That's a terrible pick at that point in the draft, and yes you can talk about good things the kid might do, or talk about how he might actually pan out.

It's still a bad pick, and I guess I'm expecting you of all people to understand that and not try to rationalize it.

And I said that. This whole conversation stems from me saying, "gotta applaud him at least addressing the worst area on the team for the last 4 years". At least he didn't reach for a safety. I guess that's rationalizing it, but I have continually said it's a bad pick and a reach. What more do you want?

We don't know how the future of the Cubs is going to work out either, yet we're still here complimenting and complain regardless of what the future outcome will be.

I know my draft choices would've been awful and most likely worse than the Bears ov4er the last few years, doesn't stop me from "internet" trying though.

I don't have to form my own opinion on a player to know if this is a reach or not. I can read what other qualified people whose opinions I respect for one reason or another think and then I can decide whether I'm happy or angry based on that.

Can we get rid of Emery and take Minnesota's GM?

He's about to trade a combination of their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round pick with NE to take Te'o... (according to Shefter)

i'm not even a bears fan.

your position seems to be that fans of a team shouldn't get upset when the team they follow makes a selection that the vast majority of experts in the field disagree with. like when people were mad that the cubs drafted hayden simpson; i mean, none of us had seen him play so who were we to criticize? maybe he turned out awesome, who knows???

If Kyle Long turns out to be the best player in this draft, it still will be a case of... "coulda had Kyle Long AND another good player. Of course, we don't know that a trade down was even an option. Maybe nobody offered. But for all my arguing in this thread. I 100% agree with the sentiment that for a team that supposedly positioned themselves to take BPA.....they didn't come close to taking the best player on the board.

So you would have to have some knowledge of that player, even if it's second hand, to form an opinion. Which is why I asked what he knew about him, because basically everything he had said about him was wrong outside of his name.

Holy crap, do you have to sniff glue to be a Bears fan?

He's either lying, or his draft evaluation system is way beyond anyone else's.......or he's just stupid.

Which is most likely?

Bears pick has to be the worst in the 1st round, right? Maybe the Bills? Bottom two, at best.

Definitely Bills

You seem much more upset about the people mad over this pick than those people are mad.
