Bullpen still really needs another lefty after dfaing Beliveau. Not sure that I like JP Howell over Beliveau, but that's what I see happening.

Wood

Yeah that's logical, but for whatever reason I just can't imagine Wood and Villanueva sitting in the bullpen. Granted that would make for a vastly improved pen.

I think the chances that both would remain in the pen all year are pretty slim.

Yeah for sure. Even if the rotation avoided injuries, they'd just be plugged in when Feldman and Baker are inevitably traded.

Well, yeah. But the pen could use another LHP, Villanueva/Feldman/Baker/Wood are all about on the same level of value as starters. So it makes sense to start Wood in the pen at the beginning of the year for an extra LHP and let those others guys start/be the swing guy in the pen and/or let Baker start the year in Iowa/EXST to work on things.

Turning a young, cost-controlled starter into the second lefty out of the pen seems a little wasteful.

The cost-controlled descriptor is rather meaningless.

With so many guys at the level where we hope to get 110 innings out them, it makes plenty of sense. There's probably going to be many guys with 8-15 starts this year.

He could be more than that, though.

Potentially even Fuji's set-up man if/when Marmol is gone.

It worked out with Marshall, but it probably would have worked out a lot better if they had kept him as a starter.

Well, yeah, other than the part where he always got hurt when he pitched a lot.

File this under WTF...

Adam Greenberg is getting a chance to climb back to the big leagues.

The former Cubs outfielder, who was hit in the head by a pitch in his first big-league plate appearance, has signed a minor-league contract with the Baltimore Orioles. It does not include an invitation to spring training.

Maybe there is some sort of chairtable donation deduction the Orioles can claim on their taxes for signing him to a contract, like when companines donate money to the Make a Wish Foundation.

I believe i read somewhere that the reason Villanueva came to the cubs was because he was going to be a starter. So as long as Garza and Baker make most of their starts this season, I believe that would leave Wood and Feldman in the pen.

Feldman was told he would be a starter too.

I guess they arent counting on health from both Baker and Garza then. Or say bye to SHark and/or Garza.

Or maybe Kevin Costner can pick him up on a backwoods road and offer him a spot on his team.

Rangers claimed Beliveau according to ESPN1000
Posted
In addition to the aforementioned, RHP Sandy Rosario was claimed on waivers by San Francisco and LHP Gerardo Concepcion cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Kane County.

No surprise in the slightest that Beliveau was claimed. Not too happy with it.

Rosario was intriguing, but it seems that everyone wants him, just not enough to keep him.

Still don't quite get why we're so protective of Clevenger. I can't imagine anyone claiming him anyway.

That's an annoying loss. There were easily half-a-dozen guys on the 40-man worse than him.

Very true. Still, after Rosario there are still 39 on the 40 man, and that's without Jackson, Villanueva, and Schierholtz. I don't know how many times I've said this, but it could be that they're trying to make a trade or two before any DFA's.

Damn, Rosario got claimed by the very last team that could have. He'd already passed thru the entire AL recently and based on records, the Giants winning the WS would have been last.
