Looked like the Reds lost because Rolen is old and washed up.

if only a competent replacement was on the bench

Something, something experience, paying dues, veterans

Hey, the Cardinals are winning a playoff game. That's different.

When you think about how many prospects they missed out on by not trading their good players, not to mention the opportunities to test out scrapheap players with minute upside, you almost feel sorry for them.

SERIOUSLY WHO THE [expletive] IS PETE KOZMA

Came to post the same thing. WTF

A guy taken 15 picks after Josh Vitters in 2007, with considerably less offensive success since. Until the Cardinals needed him for a late-season run, of course.

This is the thing that bothers me most about Cardinals fans. They have no clue that this guy who just got called up is an absolutely worthless player and he's pulling this recent streak out of his ass. Then they're amazed at the references to pixie dust and the hate they get from other teams' fans. It's unbearable down here during playoff time.

It's good to have Bob Costas and Jim Kaat announcing the first Nationals home playoff game since 1933. They are doing justice to the place of this game in the context of history that not TBS announcer could ever do. Edited by AlwaysaCub

How is it that you missed what Redbird fans have been saying about Kozma for years?

A short recap of STL's postseason so far:

- Reached the playoffs via a playoff spot that didn't exist before this season

- Won wild-card game with help from one of the worst (or at the least, most controversial) umpiring calls in baseball history, not to mention inexplicably terrible defense from one of the best-fielding teams in the game this year

- Advanced to play the only team in the playoffs who is without one of their best players (and just to rub it in, said player is not even injured)

- About to take 2 games to 1 lead in best of 5 series on the back of a player who is so bad at hitting that as recently as last year was putting up an OPS AT TRIPLE-A that was worse than Joe Mather's major-league OPS this season

I didn't see anything wrong with the call. I'd even go so far as to say it was the right call.

It was, and so was the Ichiro call last night. This playoff season has been great for bringing some of baseball's most misunderstood rules into the spotlight.

I've already come to accept that Kozma is going to ops 900+ next year and hit 20 plus HR and be the starting all-star SS. Also he's probably gonna win the world series MVP. [expletive] the Cardinals, it's such BS how they turn out guys like him on a yearly basis. Edited by Cubswin11

Between Kozma, Jay, Freese, Craig, Carpenter, Lynn, and Garcia, there's 1 appearance in a Top 100 prospects list, which belongs to Garcia when he came in at number 70 in 2007. They currently have 4 guys in the top 50. (Tavares, Miller, Martinez, Wong,) so I really hope Theo and Co.keep racking up top shelfers in the next few years.
