I just hate how they basically forced a tie breaker game, when there is no tie. You can't recreate the drama of last year. Not matter how hard you try. It's something that just has to happen on it's own.

This is my biggest beef. I don't think it should have been implemented this year because they didn't have time to do it the right way. I think at the very least it should be treated like a double-elimination tournament where the Braves would have had to win only one game and the Cardinals would have had to win two both in Atlanta. If you get a true tie like you did in the AL then it just reverts back to a one-and-done like it's always been.

Yep, I still think it's selig trying to fix something that isn't broken. Just leave it alone, it was working well. Now Atlanta totally got hosed, beaten by a team it's had a far better year than in one game.

This is an MLB version of the tuck rule. Call can be defended by the wording in the rule book, but you watch the play and its a fumble.

I think that is overstating it, but it makes a lot more sense than comparing it to an outright blown call.

Atlanta had all year to beat Washington. They would have a gripe had the rules been changed at the ASB or something.

So the 162 games mean nothing now. Baseball has always been about series in the postseason. Now it's a one game thing. It's not right.

Who would have guessed Josh Donaldson would eventually play more playoff games with the As (assuming he plays another game this series) than Rich Harden with the Cubs?

Scheduling postseason games so they don't overlap causes ridiculous start/end times for some teams, but the new format has the potential to make it worse (and has this season). Any time you have 5 ET teams in the playoffs and one in each LDS it's going to cause problems, but now both of the ET/PT matchups are on the same dates. In years past they would have scheduled so that did not happen, but now the format is locked in because of the Wild Card game. Now you have 9:30 pm start times for the Reds and 9:00 am start times for the A's. I would imagine the worst case scenario would be for both central division champs to be in the ET and the WC winners and West division champs be in the PT. could you imagine them trying to schedule 4 ET/PT series at once?

Speaking of, where is Harden these days?? Is he officially out of baseball? Or is he hurt again trying to come back?

I think he's a rehabbing FA this year from what I could find online.

Of course the Cardinals get two runs on no hits.

You have to applaud these other teams for trying, but it's obvious how this playoffs is ending. 12 in '12. :banghead:

4 walks for Gio in the first inning after 76 in 200 innings to this point.

Wait....1st and 3rd, 0 outs, down 2-1 in the 8th and Espinosa....bunts to get the guy at 1st to 2nd. I mean holy hell what the heck are you thinking? This [expletive] always happens against STL.
