Why is Maholm starting?

Hasn't started since the 4th and he's been terrific 2 starts in a row. Why not?

I can't remember who started the games leading up to the break, but I would assume you would always start Samardzija, Garza or Dempster if you could. Or even Wood.

 

I was hoping the answer was "because Garza or Dempster is going to be traded in the next 24 hours."

Dempster was supposed to start this game originally. At least that's what Pat and Keith said on Sunday.

 

There's no way Shark would start because they want to give him as much rest as possible.

It makes sense to give Dempster an extra day of rest considering he's just off the DL.

It's obvious why shark shouldn't be starting, he gets the extra break to hold down his total innings. Dempster was given an extra day 'cause he's old and injured. And Garza has sucked so they are probably hiding him.

I had it in my head that this series was in Arizona, so I was really happy to find out this morning that this was an afternoon game.

That is true. When I originally went to create this game thread, I saw Dempster listed as the expected starter on yahoo.com and then I checked cubs.com and they had Maholm listed. I don't trust yahoo sports so I went with Maholm.

Yes please; I'm hoping ESPN stays with this game here in Europe.
