You act like non-Cub fans are any better. Most Dodger fans are dumb. Most baseball fans are.

I'm in Virginia Beach. Can't say I know but one "real" Cubs fan. run into people with a Cubs hat or shirt on fairly often. They'll usually say something assinine really quick too. Sandberg should be the manager is the leader in the clubhouse as far as that goes.

Tigers fans still trace every problem back to letting "the perfect #2 hitter" Placido Polanco walk, and LOOOOOOOVE(D) Brandon Inge

Even some of the "educated" baseball fans are completely clueless. I've seen a Headley for Tillman/Schoop post today where half the people think that's too much and another post where Garza+Soriano nets the Cubs Tillman and Avery. Terrible, just terrible.

You are absolutely right. Honestly, most people around here aren't MLB fans at all. The few that are around a country boys who root for them good ole braves. Let's just say they, unsurprisingly, aren't really privy or keen to sabermetrics.

Was in VA Beach this past week, wearing my Cubs gear, and 1 person commented. I've found that saying something homer/meatballish is better. It keeps the less informed from trying to argue with me that is a much better player that that lazy Castro.

Billy Hamilton will likely become what most Cubs fans think that Tony Campana is.

Hamilton has a shot to stick at short, which already gives him a leg up on Campana. He also doesn't pound the ball into the ground as much as Campana (who has had GB% numbers in the high 50's/low 60's whereas Hamilton is around the 50% mark). I'm not sure if Hamilton has that much more "real" power over Campana, but he's probably more of an offensive threat than Campana, and Campana's speed, which is plus, is not close to Hamilton's speed, which is plus-plus ... and hell, you can probably throw another plus in there for emphasis.

Hamilton also doesn't have a fast-pitch softball swing

As of about a month ago, 40% of all of the balks in the California League happened while Billy Hamilton was on base.

HE'S AT 82 STEALS ALREADY?!?!?! Didn't he have like 50 two weeks ago? Sweet Jesus.

EDIT: Thought this was funny...

Hamilton ranks among the fastest players in the draft, a true 70 runner on the 20-80 scale.

Probably about 10 points low I'd wager

I'm about as eastern US as you can get. I don't really know any Cubs fans around here. There is one professor at the University that claims to be a Cubs fan, but he sounds like a moron when I try to talk to him about anything Cubs-related. I try to avoid those conversations now. Typical meatball.

I got a good chuckle out of this. Meatball professor, huh? I'd ask what class, but then I might find out who the person is, and ... I'd laugh if I ever saw them.

I actually grew up ... sort of ... around that neck. Well ... 2 years (1st and 2nd grade), and not really VA Beach. A bit inland (Poquoson, if you know the area).

lol probably more than that.

i mean, people give guys like campana and trout 80 scores in speed. which is justified because they're faster than like 99% of baseball players. hamilton needs his own score.

I hate when that happens. You meet someone who is a Cubs fan while living far from Chicago and are initially excited to have another Cubs fan to talk to. Then you find out he's a meatball who has no idea what's happening on a week to week basis but still loves talking Cubs. Now everytime you run into him he's excited to bring up the Cubs and talk about how mad he is that Tony Campana isn't playing everyday. Eventually you try to avoid the dude whenever possible because it's more annoying than it should be to engage in conversation with the meatball.

It's similar when I'm around my best friend's parents. They talk about how great Campana is, how lazy Starlin is, how the Cubs would be a .500 team under Sandberg etc. I want to lay into them and go on an half hour long rant but I can't so I just grin and nod while fighting off the impending aneurysm, all the while dying a little inside.

Everything being said is hitting the nail on the head. He LOVED Theriot and I'm sure (haven't talked to him lately) that he's a big Campana fan (as a starter - not his optimal role that is pinch runner and 5th OFer). Fairly positive he loved the addition of Reed before this season started.

Meanwhile, he was pumped Z was traded and never liked ARAM in the first place.

Now my conversations consist of "catch the game last night?" *keep walking, hear something somewhat audible as I turn the corner*

Toonster - you have a connection to ECU?

Nah, sorry, was speaking more in a general sense. Passed through the area a bit in the past, but not anymore. Had a student go there.

I guess I shouldn't, what's the old saying, cast stones, or whatever. I'm sure I've made some meathead comments before.

That's awesome. My dad lives in Poquoson now actually.

Passed through the area about ... 5 years back? Can't recall exactly, but to the best of my recollection (and my folks), the area had changed a bit, with some new developments (and I think a new Elementary school? ... my folks thought there was an extra one that wasn't there before ... ). It's a nice little town, and for those that work at NASA, it's close enough to work while being it's own community.

Agreed. If Hamilton isn't an 80 runner, then no one is an 80 in anything.
