Kiley McDaniel @kileymcd

Was just told Clint Frazier still securely in HOU mix. I would consider him there but can't help but think this is misdirection, like Moran.

Now this is just getting silly.

Not really - this is the norm when there isn't a Strasburg/Harper no doubter.

Here's my mock top 10 rounds right now.

Price/slot value guesstimate

2) Appel 6.0/6.7

41)RHP Connor Jones 2.0/1.3

75)3B Ryan McMahon .750/.750

108)LHP Stephen Tarpley .500/.500

138) RHP Jeff Thompson .400/.400

168) RHP Dustin Driver 1.200 /.300

198) Senior Sign .010/.200

228) Senior Sign .010/.175

258) Senior Sign .010/.150

288) Senior Sign .010/.125

From what little I can hear, Jones IS signable. Honestly not sure if 2 mill gets him or not. I can't see a team going much over that to get him, at any rate.

The problem is there aren't too many signability types who will fall and it sure sounds like Houston will gobble up a couple of those.

Bryant displaying warning track opposite field power on an 86 mph fastball from Grant Watson. Would have been gone about an hour ago, before the sun had set and the humidity hadn't increased.

And a lot of this probably has to do with Houston playing potential picks against each other to get the best possible under slot contract.

Float a story here. Create a rumor there. And then go back to their agents to see who is willing to come down a bit.

BTW, to my untrained eye watching a game on the computer, Bryant has looked pretty good/athletic at 3B.

Felt the same way last year when he played in UCLA's regional.

Yeah, they'll be getting a few. I kind of suspect the Astros will get Biggio and Boldt. I picked Driver for us, because his lack of projectability could scare teams away from giving him a big overslot from his 3/4 round type of grade.

Wow, Kiley said teams will NOT be getting Manaea's medicals. Good luck getting a team to pony up on that one Scott......

Kris Bryant's season is over. He ended up going 0/4 with a strikeout. He never faced a pitch over 88 MPH today against soft tossing Grant Watson and submarine closer David Berg. Of course San Diego only managed one hit against UCLA all game.

ABTY thinks we have our top 4 at 1. Bryant 2. Appel 3. Moran 4. Gray. But also said it's really close and multiple scouts have told him they have all 4 graded so closely they could virtually be interchangeable.

Just thought of this: May be outlandish, but anyway.....Is it against the rules for Boras to only give Manaea's medical info to certain teams or if he gives them to one, is it then a requirement to give them to whoever asks?

I'm asking, because we were certainly very high on him at one point. There are very few teams that have the ability to give him the kind of money Boras will want for him. And without knowing, the fact he's from Indiana makes it plausible at least, he may be a Cub fan. If he's healthy, taking Bryant at 2 and saving some money(signs for 5ish?) could get us Manaea at 3 or so(still top 10 money) and give us 2 of the top 7-8 players in the draft. With 3 mill or so left in the budget for more.

Likely that Manaea is just messed up and doing his best Matt Purke imitation, but with Boras, who knows?

I'd be very surprised if 2 mil nabs Jones. Could be wrong, but it feels like it's going to take basically monster money to nab him.

That said, the kid has electric stuff. I'd love it if the Cubs drafted him because they knew they could sign him.

Quick, silly question: Who/what is ABTY?

Guy who posts on ProSportsDaily Cubs forums who has a lot of connections with scouts in the Midwest. He doesn't have a direct inside connection with the Cubs, but he's shown some reliability posting insider rumors from around baseball.

Speaking of ABTY, he posted this yesterday...

Kris Bryant believes he'll be a Cub...Gray feels same about Astros...

I still can't say I hate the idea of drafting the bat and then going for quantity with pitching like last year. Especially if Gray is off the board.

That said, I'm just not sure if Bryant's bat is good enough if he's not at 3B.

Actually, I have no idea what the hell I want to happen.

I want the Astros to go the cheap route and leave no doubt that whomever we get is the one guy that our front office wanted the most.

Yeah. Hoping the Astros take Frazier or Moran for the discount.

Well, yeah. That.

Another reason I'd be fine with adding one more to our stable of bats (and not drafting based on need) is that our FO has shown an ability to put together good pitching staffs on the cheap...especially with this whole emphasis on ground balls and infield defense thing.

Can someone who's followed the draft for a while make an attempt to rank Bryant against other college 3B coming out?

- Bryant

- Longoria

- Rendon

- Alvarez

- Gordon

- Zimmerman

- Braun

- Glaus

- Tex

And looking back on some lists, there really are no college 3B busts....

Offense only or overall?

There was a list on here somewhere about the bust rates at different positions. I thought there were a couple 3B.
