Cliff Lee to the DL with a "strained elbow"

He said he has been pitching with some soreness since April 17, a day after he threw a career-high 128 pitches. The Phillies anticipate Lee will be sidelined for at least three weeks.

In the 4.5 seasons Fielder and Pujols have combined for since their new contracts, they've had 12.6 fWAR (2.8 per season). $8.57 per. Not as bad as I was expecting.

That made me check: 8.5 fWAR in 2012, 4.1 fWAR since

This is kind of awesome. I love Tulowitzki.

Tulo changed his walk-up song to "I Saw The Sign" by Ace of Bass today in response to Giants announcer accusing him of stealing signs at Coors

Yordano Ventura will undergo an MRI Tuesday after exiting Monday's start versus the Astros with lateral elbow discomfort.

Uh oh. Ventura was tagged for five runs on seven hits and three walks over just 2 2/3 innings before leaving, and he hit only 91 mph with his fastball against his final hitter of the night. It's worth noting that the ulnar collateral ligament is on the medial and not the lateral side of the elbow. However, that doesn't necessarily mean Ventura doesn't have some ligament damage. We'll find out Tuesday.

@JeffPassan: If Ventura needs TJ, seven of nine hardest-throwing big-league starters from 2013-14 will have had it. Only three of next 21 underwent it.

...it seems like the correlation between pitchers who hit triple-digits and arm injuries is a little overwhelming to me. When I see 102 mph I think two things. One: Awesome. Two: How long will that last?

I know that might be irrational, but I can't help but be wary of anyone who can toss 100 mph or above, health wise.

Never got a straight answer regarding this opinion. Is there something to it or just coincidence? Later posted this but no one discussed it in the amateur thread...

FWIW, there's a lot of once bright names on this list:

Obviously the ones that stand out are the ones who are good pitchers with great secondary stuff who are capable of making adjustments to continue their career. But there's a lot of names on that list who just completely dropped off the face of the Earth because they either can't stay healthy or their velocity got zapped.

How accurate do you think Chapman at 105mph is? Has there been a study on this?

For that matter all the guys at over 102 mph im curious about.

I think you're on to something, especially for starters with the workload they typically have. I have to wonder if Rosenthal from the Cards isn't about to hit the DL after his amount of usage last year and a significant velo drop this year.
