In a season where there are always multiple inter-league series going on, why does MLB still "reset" stats on players who are traded from one league to the other?

Major League Baseball released umpire Brian Runge on June 14 for what sources told the Associated Press was related to at least one failed drug test and Runge’s inability to adhere to the terms of an agreement he had made so that he could retain his job.

The MLB has not publicly said why Runge was released, but his apparent termination because of drug use is believed to be a first for an umpire.

Runge, who became an umpire in 1999, hasn’t worked a major league game since Aug. 30 because of a knee injury. However, he did call several spring-training and triple-A games this year.

Last year, Runge called Philip Humber’s perfect game for the Chicago White Sox on April 21 and was at home plate when the Seattle Mariners used six pitchers in a no-hitter on June 8.

Wow. First umpire to be fired (aside from the guys who lost union protection back in 99) since 1987, I believe. Oh, looks like there was also a guy who was fired in 2001 for selling his first class seats

The Oriole's Adam Jones has not taken a walk since May 12 a total of 162 plate appearances ago. For the season he now has a 2.3% BB%. Starlin Castro has a 3.6% BB%.

Still no walks since May 12 and we're nearing the two month mark. He's got to be closing in on an MLB record at this point.

So did Gerrit Cole just forget how to strike anybody out this year?

So did Gerrit Cole just forget how to strike anybody out this year?

Joe Sheehan was saying something on his most recent podcast that for whatever reason, Cole is throwing few (if any) changeup this year, despite the fact that his changeup is supposedly his best pitch. Not sure if it's rumored to be an organizational thing a la Bundy w/ the Orioles or what.

I don't understand what possible reason an organization could have for telling someone not to throw a changeup anymore, especially if it's considered their best pitch.

Only five NL teams have positive run differentials (Colorado is even). Only five AL teams have negative run differentials (the Yankees are also even).
