Yes. I believe the point was that he was a player who could have potentially gone to the Cubs in a deal.

According to Brett's article and updates (starting with Update 4), it sounds like the "3-team race" for Dempster was a tactic to squeeze a little more from the Dodgers.

I'm hearing the same thing from a guy I know who works for the Cubs, so that sounds like a pretty highly likely scenario.

Not holding out exactly. The information I get is intermittent at best. If I have something I'll pass it along, it just doesn't happen too often what with all their tight lippedness these days.
