No it isn't. That makes no sense. If he lies it only makes it worse and forever buries his career. This isn't such a huge deal that he couldn't admit he should have punished him more harshly and worked his way back up to an AD job again. This will go away and other schools will love the money he got Rutgers more than this in a few years. But throw the university under the bus and lie about the process? He'd be done forever.

I'll buy this line of thinking if only because I know how horrendously difficult the HR department at my company makes it to fire people. You have to have absolute, lock down, no questions asked proof of something pretty egregious for them to allow you to fire someone. We had a CDL driver get a DUI that he didn't report to us and the only reason HR let us fire him was because his CDL expired before his court proceedings were over; he couldn't renew his license and therefore couldn't drive. They're just so paranoid about potential lawsuits.

Yeah I've worked at companies that take a similar approach. Instead of being fired, they will demote people or move them into different departments.

Eh never mind I forgot he's a ball state guy and he's just being weird

He's not weird because he's a Ball State guy, he's weird because he's an unfunny stupid punk.

Ball State actually hired Arizona associate head coach James Whitford. Not quite as exciting.

Of course, McGary is now backing off from his comments that he's 100% returning to Michigan next year and will consider his options after the season. It would suck if we lost Burke, Hardaway, GRob and McGary after the season, but this is college basketball and I am very satisfied to reach a Final Four with this team.

I guess UM can go with a freshman heavy lineup against next year Derrick Walton, Zak Irvin, Nik Stauskas, Mark Donnal, Jordan Morgan with with Albrecht, LeVert, Horford and Bielfeldt off the bench. Still a tourney team.

McGary wouldn't be a high enough draft pick to make that worthwhile, would he?

who the [expletive] thinks of weird [expletive] like this hours before a final four game??

it's especially going to suck if they all collectively fall into a sinkhole

His stock has skyrocketed and some have said he'd be a late 1st. He'd might end up being drafted before Hardaway Jr. Right now NBAdraft.net has McGary going 22 and Hardaway 25.

I understand why he would want to go out. Team reaches the Final Four, the teams best player and playmaker is leaving, a guy who really helped him accumulate such great stats in the tourney. He's a very talented player and I could see him being a monster next year and raise his stock even higher but that's no given.

hmmm cause i saw it on RealGM's wiretap and wanted to comment on it, since I commented on McGary saying he was 100% coming back to UM earlier this week. Sorry, I'll go back and read another article on how to beat Syracuse's zone.

3-star recruit works his way to Wooden Award in his sophomore season

*arbitrarily fixates on like 2-game sample of shooting %*

basketball team reaches heights unseen in twenty years

*frets about hypothetically losing four guys at once*

etc.

just really, really [expletive] weird to think that way

NBADraft.net is brutal. Use Draft Express.

McGary is 20 years old, he will be 21 by the draft. I was 17 as a freshman. I know he had one year of prep school, but how is he that old?

He classified down a grade. Let's just say, well, he wouldn't be going to Michigan if he wasn't really good at basketball.

McGary the freshman is older than Devyn Marble, a junior.

i believe that i heard either here or somewhere else that it's common to hold your kid back if you're a crazy sports-farm parent that doesn't really care about the normal emotional development of your kid.

How exactly does this work and how do state activities associations allow it to happen? I remember when I found out Tyler Hansbrough was two months older than me yet graduated a year later, which pretty much guaranteed them a state title in 2005. The whole thing seems absurd and unfair.

Depends on state. One of our better players wasn't allowed to play his senior year for us as he turned 20. Granted that's been fifteen years ago.
