I know it is still very early, but this Illinois team has been a lot of fun to watch so far.

The shooting will cool off soon, and you'll want to kill them. We're like a Villanova team circa 2004-07 with guards that aren't as good.

They will surely cool off to some extent, but I do think they can continue to shoot a high percentage on a regular basis if they keep getting the same quality of shots. They seem to be playing a more well-rounded game than they did the past few seasons.

When they needed to start taking the ball to the basket tonight, they did. I'd like to see a little more in the way of a post game from Egwu, though. And the defense has been very good. I really like the new aggressive, uptempo game, and I think the depth will allow the Illini to wear some teams down.

But as much as I like all the threes, I'd also like to see Paul remember he can really slash and score, too.

The Maui Invitational winner has made the NCAA tournament 26 of 28 years, and hasn't missed the tournament since 1986.

Good news for Butler then.

Since we won the maui and I'm assuming you'll win your tourney, I'm excited for our matchup this year

Jurkin and Perea lost their appeal.

Mizzou gets Louisville tonight and potentially Duke tomorrow. Really wish that Mike Dixon had served his time for whatever it is he did wrong.

Never had my hopes up on this, but it does seem odd. If that isn't the whole story, then why not come out with it? Seems like this is the only technicality they can come up with. If they think there was something more sinister going on here, then come out with it.

Oh well. I'll be there fit the "debut" against Butler.

Response from IU AD Fred Glass

"Earlier today, we received notice that our appeal for a reduction in the withholding penalties for Hanner Perea and Peter Jurkin was denied. While we are disappointed with the denial, we are even more disappointed in the case summary as communicated by the NCAA public relations staff. This case continues to be about $185 in Varsity Club contributions over 20 years ago, notwithstanding the NCAA National Office's troubling references to activities that are permissible or would have been permissible but for the minor donations. Having said that, we accept this as the NCAA's final word on the case, and we will have no further comment on the matter."

The real problem is that an IU compliance officer believed Adams could/would(?) be classified as a booster -- which is a silly application of the term, sure -- when Tijan Jobe was recruited. The compliance officer -- who was let go -- did not disclose this, so IU did not disclose this to the NCAA when discussing A-HOPE two years ago for Perea/Jurkin, and IU paid the price.

I'm probably more disappointed that these kids still have to pay back part of the benefits than the suspensions. These kids had no reasonable reason to expect the benefits they were receiving were impermissible. While the suspension hurts both the kids and the institution (and indirectly the "booster"), paying back the benefits only hurts the kids.

Can't wait to see what happens to the other schools that have taken on A-Hope kids. 22 have gone to schools for basketball, 3 to IU.

Watch out New Mexico, you took Obij Aget, tread lightly. Same for you Izzo and MSU. Hope Idong Ibok was worth it.

Nothing will happen. Adams is (presumably) not a "booster" of any other school. The problem isn't A-HOPE. Adams is allowed to do for other kids what he did for Perea/Jurkin. He is just not allowed to do it for players that end up at IU. Which is silly, but coherent.

Are you attempting to imply that IU is unfairly picked on by the NCAA?

Really?

Really?

It was tongue in cheek. It is a bit ridiculous though. It would be one thing if Indiana has been landing studs from this guy or through his program, but they aren't.

I wouldn't want to steal the "NCAA is out for us" act, might upset some Illinois fans

Do you not think that if this situation was going on at UI, two kids suspended because someone donated $185 20 years ago, they wouldn't think it was ridiculous also?

IU will be fine, like I said before, I didn't expect this to be reduced.
