Was I the only one surprised to hear that the season opened today? I knew that things were going to start in Tokyo, but it seems like the major networks didn't do as much promoting as usual.

The Mariners won

It was a great move having opening day start at 4am in the home markets for these teams. ESPN still have the dodger sale as it's headline story at 6am here. Crazy.

I can't figure out why they didn't make it a day game in Japan.

can't we go back to the opening day where every team played on... one day? I don't understand the point of this

For what purpose? It's not like they always had every team play at the same time. Opening day has fluctuated for years. There is MLB's opening day, but also opening day for every individual team, including home openers for teams that open on the road. I see nothing wrong with this sort of marketing concept where teams play in foreign locales. And if they do play outside the country there is little choice but to have it at odd hours and prior to other teams games since they have to travel so far.

Personally if they ever do get around to promoting the game more in Europe, I'd love to attend a Cubs opener in Italy or somewhere similar.

I enjoyed getting up early to watch the Cubs in Japan a decade ago. Opening day evolves and it's not like this sort of thing happens every year.

My fantasy team is quite appreciative to miss out on Ackley's HR and Felix's 8 inning win.

Felix got a ND. The game ended in the 11th inning. Feel a little better now?

in this unusual circumstance, i think the spirit of the rules of the league should let you retroactively put them in your starting lineup

What if I actually wanted Ichiro but forgot to draft him? Can I have him off the guy's team who actually owns him?

Ryan, I don't have time for this. But I certainly have the money. Anyway, Ryan, just make a trade for Ichiro if you want him so bad.

Understood, but it's still weird when the season has started and the bulk of your biggest market doesn't even realize it.

2 games have been played, but if I wouldn't know that based on the home page of the most popular sports website in the world. the default scores are nba, the picture/headline is the knicks game, and there isn't a single story in the list of headlines to the right. I have to click on the mlb scores tab to see that oakland won and click the box score to see that Cespedes hit a HR.

Maybe espn is prohibited from covering the game, but maybe they're just mad that their standard SNB opening game isn't true opening day this year, so they're going to ignore what happens in Japan.

There's a headline about Cespedes's HR. But yes, ESPN is notorious for ignoring stories they aren't broadcasting themselves, unless it's too huge to avoid.

That was added later. Still pathetic.

None of this matters anyway. Everyone knows the season won't start until the first Marlins HR.

Forget the Tokyo game, did people realize the Marlins open with a 1-game series at home against STL? If Miami doesn't hit a HR in that game we'll have to wait almost 2 weeks for their next home game.

It should be Zambrano that triggers it first.
