That's mostly the angle. It's small but not as small as that picture makes it look.

Keep buyin dem rooftops

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-ricketts-family-buys-more-wrigley-rooftops-20150521-story.html

The Cubs-owning Ricketts family has purchased three more buildings with Wrigley rooftop businesses, increasing its grip on where Cubs fans spend their dollars around the team’s historic stadium.

Sheffield Finance sold the Sheffield Avenue properties to an entity controlled by the Ricketts family, which now claims six buildings on the street with rooftop businesses.

More than a dozen rooftop businesses line Waveland and Sheffield avenues, charging admission for refreshments and bird's-eye views of Cubs games. But many have been caught up in the nasty battle with the team that’s only escalated after the Ricketts bought the Cubs in 2009.

The Ricketts paid an undisclosed price for the buildings at 3637 N. Sheffield, 3617 N. Sheffield and 3619 N. Sheffield, Cook County property records show. The Ricketts, who will assume no debt on the buildings, also paid an undisclosed amount for the buildings' rooftop businesses.

Sheffield Finance is an entity owned by Jerry Lasky and Murray Peretz, partners in Spectrum Real Estate, a Chicago commercial real estate business.

The three buildings just bought were the properties in foreclosure being reported on little while back. A quick look at the property records shows that the new entity created by the Ricketts is basically assuming the mortgages on the properties which would explain why the transfer amount isn't disclosed.

I thought I saw an article saying that Ricketts previously purchased the mortgages from the bank.

Isn't "assuming the mortgages" the complete opposite of the report above that said they were not assuming any debt?

Last two posts appear to be both more accurate than what I initially said.

From what I can tell after spending a little more time looking at the records, for the 3617/3619 property, the property was conveyed to 3617-19 Sheffield Holdings, LLC which has Greystone, LLC as the managing member. Greystone, LLC has Ricketts Acquisition, LLC as a managing member.

The assumed mortgage I was referring to was assigned to a separate 'Greystone Sheffield Holdings LLC' which is also owned by Greystone, LLC. So, the Ricketts didn't really take on any debt because they own it through the various LLC's, as KingCubs said.

The deed into the Wrigley Sheffield 17-19 LLC shows the transfer tax paid ($1 for every $1000 on the sale is paid to the state). Based on that, the price was $406,500.

You know what...

I was sitting at the game yesterday... and it started to sink in that I'm never going to be able to go to the old Wrigley again.

I have generally been in favor of the renovations, and I think the new place is gonna look awesome when it's done. It's just sad that the old place is really gone.

At the first game I attended this year, I found myself surprised at how unobtrusive the new boards are, considering they comprise over 6,000 square feet of video screen. The audio is fairly low and the presentation of content is rather subdued by jumbotron standards. I'm not a big jumbotron fan in general (I was a proponent of their addition from a revenue generating standpoint), but I found that I was won over pretty quickly.

That said, it is weird to me that this is the only Wrigley my kids will ever know.

Time marches on. The accompanying renovations to the park were badly needed. I look forward to seeing it completed in the coming years.

I was at Monday's game and am very impressed at the way the boards have been weaved into the game experience. They don't overpower it, they are a complement. That was my worry coming in, and the Cubs have surpassed my expectations in flying colors in that area.

I'm pissed I never got to experience polio.

This is incredible.

Ha. Fair enough. It's not as though I'm upset about it, though. It's just... weird.
