Posted in the other thread but for Illinois Leach would be at the top of my list, then Chryst and Sumlin.

I'm really hoping KU can snag Leach. The guy who runs the KU rivals board says if UCLA wants Leach, he's theirs. If they don't, we have a shot.

Sucks that so many solid programs are opening up this year, though. UCLA, ASU, Ole Miss, Illinois, and UNC all seem like more attractive coaching destinations than KU. If we're all pursuing the same guys, I have to figure KU will end up with its 4th or 5th option.

Another guy I wouldn't mind taking a run at is June Jones. But I don't know how available he is.

Leach definitely wants to go to UCLA. UCLA higher ups want nothing to do with his...oddness.

I think UCLA will make an attempt at Chris Petersen, come up short, say they tried for a top tier candidate and get someone like Sumlin. And will be back at this spot in 4-5 years.

Sumlin maybe isn't a top tier candidate but I don't see it as a continuation of any pattern.

Urban Meyer officially agrees to quit on OSU.

Fixed

I don't understand the Urban Meyer criticism. I think the reasons he left Florida were valid. I also think it is very possible that he has a better plan for health and family going forward.

I don't have a problem with the reasons he had for leaving Florida. I think the way he kept wavering was a little sketchy. Resigning, then coming back with a leave of absence then resigning again less than a year later left him with a label as a serial quitter.

Yeah, it's not the reasons but the way he handled it. OSU will be an even easier gig for him in terms of lack of travel. Really a perfect fit for him. Hope he beats UM every year on his way to habitual 7-5 finishes and annual scandals.

Fair enough. I don't think Sumlin will be able to hang with Oregon, USC and possibly Stanford, and will probably be lumped in the same level as Washington, Cal, Arizona and Arizona St. That said, I don't expect UCLA to end up with someone at Sumlin's level.

I used to think he needed attention, but after he spent the fall with Chris Spielman it became clear that his attention needs paled in comparison.

You've been hanging around these low-expectation having Illini fans too long.

It's been a brutal 13 years.

Zook was an odd situation. He constantly made bizarre and nonsensical calls in the game, but the program is undoubtedly in much better shape now than it was when he took over, and he ran a clean program, which can't be appreciated enough with the crap going on at PSU and OSU right now.

I just hope the next guy can continue building the program while actually being able to coach football.

We fired the wrong coach. Zook left the program in a way better spot than what he inherited and while he needed to go, he shouldn't have been the first one gone from our coaching ranks.

I can't believe that Meyer passed on Illinois to take the OSU job.

I know. The coeds at Illinois are much hotter than the ones at Ohio.

Zook should have been fired a year or two ago. He has always been terrible

I don't know why you'd be disappointed about it. The team this year should've won 9 games after the 6-0 start. They lucked into 8 games, a weak Big Ten and had all of their tough opponents at home.

Obviously, he left Illinois in a much better situation than what he inherited but he inherited one of the worst BCS programs in the land. I don't think Illinois was paying Zook to win 5-6 games a year.

Zook's season finished first since the new AD came on board.

Weber better finish better than expected or he very well could be next.

I know, I just know we haven't been a great football school in 30 plus years. In basketball we have been. Plus basketball is king in Illinois high school sports so it's a lot easier to get good quick in that here.

do you guys really think illinois will revamp both major programs in the new ad's first year? i've got to think weber is safe unless the team toooooootally flames out.

I definitely don't disagree. Weber's definitely next on the chopping block.

We just paid a hefty buyout to Zook. I think Thomas takes care of Jollette Law first, and waits a year to evaluate Weber. This year will have its ups and downs but barring a complete collapse Weber will be around in 2012.

Supposedly UCLA's AD is going with a contingent that includes Troy Aikman and Cade McNown to Boise to visit Chris Petersen after Boise State's game against New Mexico. Last time UCLA had an opening, Petersen told UCLA not to even fly out to Boise so I suppose this is progress.

Is Cade McNown some sort of respected alum?

Maybe they just sent out an email to all alums and he was the first one to reply, since he wasn't busy with anything.

He might be their last QB with a winning record.

Apparently PSU has formed a search committee for the next coach. Seeing as there is no AD (nor a president to hire an AD), I can't see this resolving itself very quickly

Did I hear Petersen's son's primary doc joined the ucla med center? Maybe he's more open now.
