all my ohio state fan friends are going nuts because rumor has it urban meyer has agreed to become the buckeyes coach.

Hard to believe any coach would take that job prior to the NCAA ruling anything.

just reading the tweets from the local ESPN Radio guys who are vehemently denying this report

RichRod to Arizona being rumored

Sounds like it'll be announced soon. I think that's a good fit for him.

There can't be any way in hell Meyer takes that job. Just cannot be.

Agreed. I don't think he's necessarily a bad coach, just not a good fit at Michigan. Started out on the wrong foot and just kept going down from there.

Why not? It's still a major program with relatively easy recruiting. You don't think Braxton Miller would blossom in a Meyer offense? If the NCAA sanctions aren't bad, it's a pretty good fit for Urban

I actually thought Illinois would be a good place for him. I think he will do well in Arizona though, as long as someone else picks the defensive coordinator.

I would think that PSU would step up here and make a serious move in Urban's direction.

I like that the article says creditable sources.

I wonder how Florida fans are feeling about this. He retires a year ago citing health and family reasons, and now he's already back to coaching. I think its interesting that he'd take the job without finding what OSU is in for when NCAA sanctions come down. They have been pretty arrogant about the whole Pryor/tat-5 thing.

ohio state already punished themselves for their rampant cheating and loss of institutional control, they will no longer allow their players to get tattoos on wednesdays or thursdays. problem solved and everybody's satisfied.

Locals here are pissed with Gene Smith (OSU AD). This season is a wash, so most fans wanted Smith to self-impose a bowl ban for this season (hoping it might lessen the NCAA punishment). But Smith is being stubborn and saying they'll accept any bowl bid they get, which means that if there IS a ban from the NCAA, it's going to a) not punish the idiot players who caused the problem to begin with and b) hurt the team next year when they're guaranteed to have a better season.

So stupid

There is not a single thing about the investigations that Smith has handled well. He really shouldn't even have a job either.

is dooley really a serious candidate to get fired? i know UT hasn't been good the last two years, but they dumped fulmer and then had kiffin ditch them a year later... they've had a low # of scholarship players and still been around .500. dooley wasn't really an inspired hire but i don't think he's been bad enough to warrant firing yet.

A little late responding to this, but I don't think there's a chance Dooley gets fired after the year. We were about 10-15 scholarships below the limit last year and this year we've missed Justin Hunter for all but two games, Tyler Bray for the best opponents, and Herman Lathers the entire season. That's 3 of our 5-6 best players, including our best two (Hunter and Bray). Dooley's bringing in another good class so far this year, which will bring our talent level a little closer to the rest of the SEC.

Two reasons I don't think Dooley is even a candidate to be fired:

1) Firing him now would mean 3 different coaches in 4 years - there's a really good chance we'd suffer enough attrition that it'd take the better part of a decade to recover. We're already looking at another couple of years before we can really look at being a contender in the SEC, and that's if Dooley keeps hitting really well on his recruiting classes.

2) It's entirely unfair to evaluate him this season. After the first two games, with everybody but Lathers healthy, we were the popular choice for a breakout team this year as we blew away Montana and Cincy. Then Hunter and Bray went down and, due to coaching changes, our backup options at QB were a guy who shouldn't be playing in the SEC (Simms) and a freshman who has no business playing for a couple of years (Worley). There's just no way to get a read on the condition of the program when you've been hit with so many injuries.

All that said, if the idiot masses had their way, Dooley would be gone at the end of the year. So who knows. Dooley's got to win at least 1-2 big SEC games next year (UF, UGA, Bama especially) to survive for a fourth year. If I could ignore the fans, however, I'd give him a full 4 years to turn this around. This program was a mess after Kiffin left.

The UCLA coach will meet with Athletic Director Dan Guerrero after the game Friday at Oregon. Observers close to the program say Neuheisel's chances of staying are bleak.

I guess this makes Raisin happy. Silly headline, though, referring to the Pac-12 championship game (I think?) as a playoff game.

From what I've heard, Neuheisel is out after Friday's game and this decision had been made after the Arizona debacle (in fact, I just read confirmation that he'll be relieved of his duties in the Pasadena Star-News). But I don't look forward to Dan Guerrero picking his 3rd HC; his hires of Dorrell and Neuheisel don't inspire confidence, especially when UCLA continues to go cheap with the football program.

Wazzou fired their head coach. Reports indicate Mike Leach is their leading candidate.
