I think we should back up the truck to Bill Cowher.

we can get the law school to fudge the numbers and make it look we're actually a top 25 program

bad or real bad, haven't decided which yet.

but this is the type of coach i had in mind when i asked the question what kind of coach do you think illinois can get if they fire zook.

Yep. This is no different than Minnesota running off Glen Mason for Tim Brewster and, now, Jerry Kill. How's that working out for the Gophers?

I have no beef with Illini football, but this is uninspiring at best and a disaster at worst. Washington State can spend $2.5MM for Mike Leach and Illinois hires Toledo's coach who ran a defense that allowed 60+ points in consecutive MAC games? Why spend all the money to remodel the stadium if this is the investment you are going to make?

Sad thing is Illini supposedly going to pay him $2mil and this is the best they could do? Hey he has the best recruiting class in the MAC coming in! Not impressed at all

Thomas showed how green he is on this one. Not happy about the hire at all. Naduzzi, Chryst and Monken all would have been better than Beckman. Fired the most successful coach in since Mike White or John Makovich (take your pick), and end up with MAC Crap. Wonderful.

Lot of talk that Charlie Weis is KU's #1 target, and if he passes, Gus Malzhan gets the gig.

Well, Illinois can't compete with a program on KU's level.

Wait, can I take that back and make a fatter than Mangino joke?

Both should be able to recruit better than any of the lesser-known guys being discussed.

Why would Weis be over Malzahn on anyone's wish list?

The only possible reason would be that Weis has shown he can recruit, but I can't believe Malzahn couldn't get the same kind of talent Weis did if he were a head coach. Really odd that KU would want Charlie first (even more so after Florida's offensive showing this year).

Florida's offense was pretty hampered by inexperience at QB and lack of depth at RB.

My concern with Weis as HC is you better hope he hires a good DC that can run that side of the field. Maybe without the ND pressure he won't jump around so much, but those 3 years of going 4/3, 3/4, 4/3 really destroyed both recruiting for the front 7 and development of the entire defense.

He'll work hard in recruiting though. No question about that. Who knows if he can sell it as well when it's KU instead of ND or Florida.

@edsbs I'D LIKE TO THANK KANSAS FOR WATCHING THAT VIDEO AND NOW THEY DIE IN A WEEK UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE WATCHES IT

According to a source, Weis' contract with Kansas is likely to reward the four-time Super Bowl champion coach richly, perhaps in excess of the over $3 million per year Will Muschamp is making as Florida's head coach.

Jesus. Wouldn't think they'd have to pay him that much.

And whoever mentioned Crist, over what we've had recently, I think I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Crist would likely excel in that offense again. He played it in HS and Weis targeted him hard even right after landing Clausen.

I actually hope that's where he lands bc he seems like a good kid and it'd be a good "low-pressure" shot to redeem himself.
