what kind of catcher's stance was that?

Tony Pena

First person to pop into my mind when I saw the video.

I caught like that in high school. It helped throwing out runners. Or at least that was the idea.

I am not sure what your coach was telling you, but when you want to throw out a runner you want to be on your toes not your kness. As you can see there were no runners on base either.

The reason catchers position themselves like that is to remove their knees from the ability to recieve a pitch. Some turn their knees in and others move them down and out. Think of it as a box in front of you. You do not want anything in that box so that you can frame every pitch.

His swing looks like a cross between Jason Giambi and Gary Sheffield.

Yeah, Gary Sheffield immediately came to mind for me as well with a dash of Glenallen Hill.

Kinda surprised by this:

Kevin Goldstein @Kevin_Goldstein

he's better than any of 'em. “@jonf1220: @kevin_goldstein If the Cubs were to get Cespedes would he be their top prospect?”

Really? He's definitely considered a top 10 guy.

No surprise there.

He's old for a "prospect", but even Darvish will show up on BA's top 100, because he's never played in the majors. Cespedes' contract is the most interesting thing for this entire offseason to me honestly. Is he going to need some time in AAA? Most likely. Probably half a season or so. Hell, at this point, with his residency dragging on longer than most thought, it's probably starting to cost him a little money and the longer it takes, it could get worse for him. But, he's gone from the 30 mill range, all the way to 75ish by some reports, back down towards 50 or so. He's a risk, no doubt about it. But, the exact type guy(Soler even moreso) that's tailor made for us, in our current state.

Marlins remain committed to outbidding the Cubs and Tigers for Yoennis Cespedes if and when he every attains free agency

Posted
Yeah, I saw that but can't help but think how that's possible, since they have no idea what we may bid.

Because, he's just going to be a regular free agent, no?

It will go like this:

Cubs just offered: x amount of dollars

Will you bid higher?

My point is every team has a cutoff point and they have no clue what ours may be, so saying they'll outbid everyone for him just screams "scare tactic" to me. Much like their agressive Pujols' push, that wasn't all that agressive, once all was said and done.

I find this more interesting than the Marlins commitmant to overpay for him.

even though it proceeds to say "and when?"

clearly, he's just alluding to the fact that this has been something of a never ending process that keeps getting pushed back. i don't think there's any question that eventually it will happen.

Per Rotoworld:

Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports that Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes has established residency in the Dominican Republic.

With that important hurdle out of the way, now Cespedes only needs approval from MLB to be granted a free agent.

Is Solar officially a FA yet? If so, I'm betting that between the Cubs and the Marlins, they'll each end up with 1 of the 2. I'd still love both though.

With the amount of posting you do here, you aren't aware if Soler is a FA yet?
