I can't tell if that is supposed to say "Bobby Howry" or if that is still a word replacement.

awesome. the revival of NSBB memes has me on this site three times a day these days. Or is it that the Cubs are finally worth following again?

Bruce Levine

Epstein and Hoyer will go to the DR,To watch Cuban Yoennis Cespedes work out next week.

Wow, that's a serious step up from McLeod doing it. I guess we are serious about this guy.

I guess they'll be looking at Jorge Soler while they are there as well. Maybe McLeod got a look at Cespedes at and earlier workout and decided the bosses needed to take a look.

One would think they watched him work out enough in that goofy video.

Maybe they'll actually see him throw the ball and maybe some more challenging field work. They should bring some pitchers with them lol Id love to see how he fares against Carpenter or Beliveau. They have been pitching in the AFL with some success. I guess that makes to much sense though.

lol at Bruce saying Theo and Jed were going to Cuba to watch Cespedes just now.

Peter Gammons of MLB.com was told by scouts in the Dominican Republic that the parameters for Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes' deal will be between $35-50 million.

That's quite a chunk of change. The feeling has been that Cespedes would seek a deal similar to the one that Aroldis Chapman signed in 2010 ($30.25 million), but evidently there are some that feel he could net much more. Cespedes has had a few private workouts for teams and has drawn interest from at least a half dozen clubs.

I have yet to hear how many years these figures would be for.

Exactly. That price range only scares me depending on years. I doubt he's out there looking for a 2-3 year deal. He's unproven goods, I'd imagine more years is an important factor. I kind of assume he'd be looking for 5 or 6 years.

Even if it's 6/$50, that's not an atrocious price.

Egads. If the brain trust likes him that much, I'll accept their wisdom, but that seems like way too much to me.

At the high end that's paying him like a 2 win player over the rumored 6 year length. Doesn't seem all that outrageous to me if you believe in his abilities.

If the Cubs view him as a middle of the order type hitter and can get him for 50 mill over 6 years, it's a very nice bargain.

STOP BEING AFRAID OF THE CUBS SPENDING MONEY.

BUT THAT IS WHAT THEY HAVE ALWAYS DONE AND WHY WE NOW HAVE TO THROW AWAY 2012 AND COMPLETELY REBUILD AND HOPE WE CAN BECOME CONTENDERS AGAIN IN 2015.

Man, I miss* the good old days when everbody complained that the Cubune didn't want to win and therefore spent no money on the roster.

*No, I don't really miss them.
