By the way, did anybody catch Rosenbloom calling Ricketts "Tom Terrific" today (at least he came around on that)...

 

The reason it's really funny is that originally he said bringing a GM here to be President would be another mistake by the "fanboy owner" (which he didn't refer to him as today).

Just spoke to my Red Sox friend. Boy, he is really pissed about this whole thing. It seems Boston fans expect to get [expletive] from us, and I truly believe they could end up with a nice little package. I just hope it isn't too nice.

i have been heckling him. his girlfriend sideline sports lady tweeted at me in his defense, but he hasn't answered. i'm sure he's got a lot of the same from other cub fans.

Of course. I'm online for just about a week and a half straight. Then, after checking NSBB last night about 10 min before Tim's post, and after a busy morning, just now got online today to find I missed the excitement!

I, on the other hand, think SoSH is high. All of them. They done smoked themselves stupid.

What's funny is that if it goes to arbitration, then precedents really matter. Since there's absolutely not a trace of doubt left that this represents a promotion, the precedents are pretty much all the Cubs favor.

Piniella got Seattle Randy Winn, who at the time was a 28 year old all-star. Piniella didn't get paid what the Cubs have committed to Epstein (implication of value there) and Epstein's rings come from a hell of a lot more recent than Piniella's did when Tampa Bay acquired him.

 

Garza seems like a very similar price to pay for someone who will have a more significant role within the organization. How is that anything but a very reasonable demand?

Andy MacPhail is pretty much a perfect corollary here. The return was a non-descript A-ball pitcher.
